So, tickets go on sale tonight for an opening night viewing at AMC theater at Disney Springs and a special event at HS afterwards... we are a family of 4 (DH, DS19, DS14, and myself). I'm sure it's going to be a long shot to score tickets as I imagine it will sell out within minutes. But, am I crazy for considering going to this???? :scared:

Price is high! (approx $100 pp) and "only" includes a ticket to see the movie at Disney Springs, then admission to HS for an after event (until 2am) - sounds like only Star Tours and the Launch Bay will be open (with character meet & greets). But, there will be a fireworks show set to Star Wars music.

Costumes are "encouraged"... but, we're not exactly costume type people. I suspect we'd at least wear some Star Wars shirts - Are we going to feel TOTALLY out of place (I'm thinking this could be the case)???

We are not attending MVMCP, we don't do souvenirs, and this would be our "splurge" for this trip. We've caught a few opening night Disney movies on previous vacations and thought it was cool. We planned on seeing The Force Awakens while down there this trip. As a family, we enjoy Star Wars movies and know basic movie trivia, but aren't "fanatics" (ie - we've never attended a comic con type event). But, we are the family that "has" to ride Star Tours over and over so that we see all the different endings. :goodvibes

I still recall the transportation nightmares that HS has had in the past while trying to hold special events (like when the villains took over on Friday, 13th :faint: ). I'm a little concerned with getting between Disney Springs and Hollywood Studios, but I can decide later if we take our car or disney transportation. I'm thinking that WDW "can't" sell "too many" tickets as they "should" be limited to how many the theater can hold, even with multiple showings. Right?

So... not taking the cost into effect... do you think this will be a fun event? would we be ok without wearing costumes? care to take a guess at how many tickets might be sold and/or how transportation will be?

We are in the same situation as you. We can't decide if it's worth it. We have 2 DS's (14 and 12). Our only problem is this is being offered on our day of arrival. Our timing might be cutting it too close to get this.

When do you think you'll arrive?

Oh man, if I were in a position to go at that time, I SO would! I think it will be amazing!

Problem I have with Disney special events is they tend to oversell them, so you could end up in a situation like the Villians special event at DHS.

This would be a no brainer for me if we were there on that date. We would be wearing normal clothes and wouldn't give it a seconds thought.

Our flight lands at 4pm and that means we would need one of the late shows and then go to HS after.
I've had flights delayed and cancelled. At $100 a ticket, personally, I wouldn't risk it.

I would do it if I were you. We sound like a similar family and really, probably not likely that you will be there for any other SW picture release. Wouldn't ruin my trip if it didn't work out, but I would sure give it a shot. Sounds like great memories for all of you!

The movie tickets are for the premiere showing at 7:00p.
I'm not sure we know that. All I have found is "starting between 7 and 8 pm".

I wonder how many tickets they sold for that event vs. how many the "can" sell for this event. It is possible/likely that they will have Star Wars showing on all 24 screens? And, will they do so for 2 showings on each screen (ie - btwn 7 & 8 and again btwn 9 & 10). They could quite easily have the same CRAZY oversold crowds that Villians had. Ugh.

It is rumored that all 24 screens will show Force Awakens for this event for the first showings (7pm) in several different formats (3D, regular, 3D ETX) it says on the site that the later showings will not include the party, so only the first showing will. Still a lot of people but I'm not sure how many seats each screening room has

I am going to try to get tickets for my family, I don't know if we will be successful my boys are huge fans and it is my 8 year olds b-day. I think this will be a once in a lifetime experience for them so I think it is definitely worth it. My boys might wear costumes but DH and I won't I think that's ok, we might wear a Star Wars T-shirt or something

That is what I am thinking. I am just going to try and get movie tickets for the Friday night showing. Still fun to watch at Disney.

This is not going to be like the Villains event which was open ended as far as admission - this apparently must be limited to the number of patrons they can fit in for the movie screenings.

Okay, first, thank you Disboards, for always ensuring I don't miss important Disney related information.

Second, my DH may be geeking out over this right now (over text, no less), but I'm wondering if there's any way to get tickets at the Disney Springs AMC OTHER than by doing this special event. I personally don't know if $100 is worth it.

all the showings after the first hour (so after 8pm) will be without the party so at a regular price
