Star Wars Merchandise - What A Mess!

The saddest part--kids who really want this--will not be able to get it. There are times that I do not like ebay and this is one.

Disney should have made more. . . . . . :confused3

It wasn't like this in past years. It was very crowded, but we had no problem getting into the store.

I think it has become this way because of the limited edition merchandise. We saw one guy that had a long coat on with the sleeves cut out. Every inch of that coat had a pin on it. There were some very serious pin collectors there.

As for Darth Mickey, yes it is sad that they end up on Ebay for rediculous prices. But, like someone else said, they will make non-collector versions that will be for sale next year. No doubt in my mind. The little Jedi Mickeys are everywhere. You won't have any problem getting one of those. Kids won't care if it has a stamp on its foot or not.

It would be cool if they would sell collector and non-collector type at the same time so the kids don't have to wait a whole year to get a Darth Mickey. I'm willing to bet they would sell better now than they would a year from now anyway. My friend wanted to get her son a Darth Tater (Mr. Potato head Darth Vader) and she can only find them on Ebay. She's not going to pay $30 with shipping for a Mr. Potato head with a Darth suit, but I'm sure plenty of grown ups will for themselves. I guess it's just one of those things that happens, like beanie babies in Happy Meals and Tickle Me Elmo, sometimes it seems more like the challenge of "winning" by getting one is a bigger deal to the grown up than getting the toy is to the kid.

Speaking of Darth Tater, do they have him in stock at Once Upon A Toy? I was counting on them having him in stock....

The Jedi Mickeys out this year are not the collectable ones from Star Wars Weekend. Those had a stamp that said Star Wars Weekend and the year on his foot. These have nothing on the feet. Other than that, they look the same.

Wow so that must mean that NEXT year, or even sooner, you could get a Darth Mickey for just the regular retail price, and you don't have to stand in line for four hours or buy it off eBay for $60! It just won't have anything on the bottom of its foot.

I never will understand the whole "collectible" thing.

I am glad to hear the tee's will be around. I want to get one for my b/f for a surprise, he'll love it.

Hi,
I got Darth Tater at my local walmart ( New Hampshire) for $7.97. He is not a disney exclusive.

If your friend wants one, I'd be happy to pick one up for her at Once Upon A Toy and ship it to her. They are only $6.39 with tax. I'm sure shipping wouldn't be very much. If she is interested, just PM me.

I'm fairly clueless when it comes to Star Wars (haven't seen any of the movies) but my DS5 is nuts over Star Wars. Sounds like by the time of our trip (September) there won't be any limited edition Star Wars merchandise left? Any chance there will be Darth Taters left or maybe SW mdse that was not released as limited edition?

I enjoy spoiling my kids but I can't bring myself to pay ebay prices for a "stuffed animal". No offense meant, it's just that he's a little boy and likes to play with his toys vs. collecting them. Every now and then they need to take a spin in the washer. :wave2:

I was there on Friday AM too.
I was at the rope drop at 9 and by the time I made it to the shop with the good stuff it was already at least 125 people long. I was not running but others were walking as fast as they could. I did get the Jedi Mickey and the logo pin from the stand to the left of STars Tours with only a 15 minute wait. They also had the t-shirts. The LE pins were inside and NO WAY was I waiting for that. I hope they figure out a better way to sell the stuff so everyone can enjoy the whole SWW activities going on.

They always have a ton of merchandise at Tantooine Traders next to Star Tours. It just won't be the limited edition stuff. I have to say that they had the biggest selection of different merchandise that I have seen there. They had tons of new action figures, etc. You'll be okay. Most little ones don't know or care if it is limited edition.

Is Once Upon a Toy the toy shop at Downtown Disney? If so, they don't have him in stock right now. I was there yesterday (Saturday) and no Darth Taters to be found. The CM I spoke with said they hadn't had them since their first shipment. They were $6 at that time, but she'd heard they would be $8 when they get him in again.

I bought Darth Tater on Friday at MGM ~ $8 there. He was selling pretty fast.

I've seen them advertised at some of my local stores such as Target, Wal-Mart, Toys R Us. But I've never actually seen them on the shelves anywhere locally.

My friend even contacted Hasbro directly and they are out of stock. I think she has given up hope. Thanks for the offer Feralpeg though. I think they should bottle and sell some of your personal pixie dust, I read about what a wonderful thing you did for those two boys!

Lizzybee. I have one in the box. It has never been opened and is just setting on a shelf looking at me. I don't really know why I bought it other than I thought it was really cute. I won't every open it. If your friend wants him, I'll be happy to give him up for adoption! Just let me know.

Hm, maybe I don't want to take him in their then :earseek: .

Just kidding really. That'll probably be the highlight of his trip. :teeth:

I just got back tonight from the world. I was there friday morning at MGM. It was an absolute nightmare! My wife volunteered to wait in line while I went to WWTBAM Star Wars edition, she is a trooper! If you read the info card they were handing out, they were also selling ALL of the merchandise at Golden Era souveniers next to Sounds Dangerous. The line was much shorter than the one at Tatooine Traders! That is why our wait was only an hour! I agree that Disney screwed the this one up big time! It was poorly planned and executed. I had no idea about the Darth Mickey!

Just wondering, is all of MGM packed or just the Star Wars areas? If we don't care about getting any SW merchandise do you think we'll be okay visiting on the last SW Saturday? We'll have visited MGM another full day earlier so this 2nd visit would be to just hit some favorites one last time.
