Star Wars Merchandise - What A Mess!

I think last year they saved some the of the Jedi Mickey's and put them out each weekend, but I could be wrong. I'm glad they at least made him again. I'll pick up him this year.

The Jedi Mickeys out this year are not the collectable ones from Star Wars Weekend. Those had a stamp that said Star Wars Weekend and the year on his foot. These have nothing on the feet. Other than that, they look the same.

Although I'd love to have one, the ones I felt sorry for were the little boys that wanted one. I heard several of them ask their parents why they couldn't have one. I wish I could have gotten my hands on 1000 of them. There would have been a lot of happy little kids leaving MGM today!

I wouldn't single out the little boys.. I feel sorry for anyone who's a big fan or collector and wanted one. We're going to be there next week and I fear there won't be any left. This is our 2nd SWW and we planned our trip around it. SW has always been a huge part of my life and made a major impact on me growing up (I consider Princess Leia to be the biggest influence on who I am now). I really hope they are releasing some each week for those who planned on being at SWW.

I really can't believe they didn't stop the guy who bought two and got back in line. That's just wrong. As much as I love eBay, things like this are also the reason I hate it. :sad2:

that really does sound like a mess.
Good luck I wouldn't wait in line 3 hrs for anything. Okay maybe if they were giving away a million bucks but not to buy anything.

Hi, we were caught up in the maniac of Star Wars weekend at MGM that we waited 3 hours in the long line and had to give up in order to make our plane ride home. Well, at least my hubby and I were smart enough to split up when we saw how long the line into the store was.

We arrived at MGM around 9:08 am. So cool to see a couple of Stormtroopers on top of the entrance over the turnstiles. Then absolute mayhem when we got to the Star Tours area. There must have been 5 different lines going and in different directions. So it took another 15 minutes to 20 minutes to figure out that we had to get in the long line snaking near Muppets 3-D in 80+ degree Orlando sunshine. There was a cart near Backlot Express that was selling some of the Star Wars merchandise but 2 of the other collector pins and the Darth Vader Mickey was available only in the store. I waited about 50 minutes in the cart line and got the logo pin and one of the limited edition opening day pin as well as the 2 different t-shirts, and some action figure toy. The T-shirt with the glow in the dark letters were really cool and the back of the shirt had glow in the dark lightsabers that Mickey and Minnie were holding up. I bought one adult and one kid size shirt. They were $19 and $17 as I recall. Merchandise was flying off the shelves and CMs kept coming out with more t-shirts and lightsabers.

This was fun and my son was chosen to be a Jedi knight in training. He loved fighting with Darth Maul. But we probably won't be going back for opening day again. Too crazy and my kids were too small to be waiting so long. This was just luck that our last day was the start of Star Wars weekend. Oh, my husband was pretty disappointed that I made him get out of the line to make our flight back to SF. He made me take a picture of him and the lady in front with the crowds in line in the background as proof that he was there. A couple of the CMs felt bad for him and joked that if he came back next year, they would buy him a Mickey Bar while in waited in line. I told him that he was still about 1 1/2 hours away from the front cashier so get out of the line! We are not die hard Star Wars fans but it was fun to be part of the excitement and craziness.

I guess I was lucky we stood in line for an hour and a half. By the time we got up there they were sold out of Mickey but lucky us we walked around the corner and a castmember manager had the last dozen or so and we got two of them. :cool1:

Hi All,
Well call me crazy :rolleyes1 but I just bought a Darth Mickey on Ebay. Got it for $29.99 :earseek: but I did not want to take a chance and not be able to get one. One guy on Ebay has 2 of them listed with a buy it now of $119.00 :earseek: :earseek: :scared1: I'm not that crazy!!

Now I hope he delivers and I have no problem with this transaction.

Well, I guess I am crazy too. :confused3 I just bought one for my son for $29.99, as well. :earseek: We are not going to be there until May 31-June 7. I had shown him a picture of one a week or so on ebay and he really wanted one. I told him that we would get one when we went to WDW. However, I am not wasting my precious park time standing in line for 1-2 hours and then waiting about as long to check out. So the extra $$ is worth it to me. There is one that is bid up to $60. Why don't people just buy it now for $29.99 or even $49.99 if they are willing to bid that much?

One person has 10 of them available at a buy it now price of $35. It is too bad that people aren't going to be able to get a Darth Mickey, because he bought them to sell on ebay. However, I guess if he is willing to wait in the hot sun all day, then more power to him. I am just not willing to do that.

That's terrible !! Standing in line for hours for the Mickeys!! - it's supposed to be a FUN weekend!!  Well, DNeph had his heart set on Darth and Jedi Mickeys, but we don't have enough time to stand in those lines without sacrificing all of the FUN things we wanted to do - probably won't be an issue for us, anyway, the way it sounds WDW is running things - we'll be down for the last weekend and there probably won't be any left ! - I don't get their (WDW) thinking (you're right, Peggy, disappointed little kids), but I won't let them ruin our FUN ! :smooth:

I bought the cheapest one buy it now last night for 40 bucks. Today I checked and I was within eight minutes of 4 auction starts for buy it now at 29.99. I bought one. The other 3 were gone within 70 minutes. I checked the sellers other auctions and 8 were for sale total.....How do people get so many? I quit pins over this stuff.....it's just nuts.

Wow, I wondered what the long line was for at the Traders yesterday. Now I'm glad I talked our son out of waiting in it.:) At least we managed to get a few pictures of characters meets.:)

Oh! You are so lucky!

Is this how the lines are every year? I was thinking of going during the Star Wars weekend next year and it seems like a nightmare to wait in these lines. Do you think that there are more people this year because the new movie has just come out and people are getting caught up in the hype more?

I'd be really sad if I cant get my hands on a Darth Mickey, we're not going til the weekend of June 3rd :(

I know what you mean we will not get there till the 10th. Here I come ebay. I called Mail Order Services at the parks and they indicated that the pins are already sold out and not available. I have had pretty good luck getting many of the limited edition pins this way. :sad2:

I know I am probably going to get flamed for this but... it really disheartens me that so many people are willing to buy these off eBay. I know we all want them, but buying them from these dealer type people just increases the proliferation of people who don't even WANT these types of items to stand in line repeatedly and take them away from thsoe who do want them, only to sell them at astronomical prices. :sad2: :sad2:

Ok, was it hlike this because it was the first SWW since the opening of the movie? Or can we expect the crowds to be like this next weekend and the next one? I will be there for the next 2 weekends and I would liek to take a look at some of the merchandise, but I don't want to wait around for it. And Trciky, I understand your feelings, but we are a capitalist society and we want what we want when we want it, ya know?

I was thinking the same thing, it might be possible that they are completely flushed because of the release of the movie. Hopefully, it'll cool down by the time we get there. Here's hoping to a Darth Mickey. :guilty:

And of course we know they will change the color of one little thing on him and sell 3,000 of that one too.

Take heart. Remember Beanie babies? If you wanted the cow and it was $160 just wait awhile. You might not get one with the green ribbon, but you'll be paying 5 bux when the exact same one with the red ribbon comes out. They'll probably do the same thing with Darth Mickey. Hopefully, there willl be another version of him out where they make a subtle change to identify him differently. As long as there's a Demand for Darth Mickey, they certainly would be stupid only to sell 3000 of him and then quit without making another version. And those of us that just want a Darth Mickey and don't care otherwise will in the long run, get him for list. And if they don't well he's not worth it to me so I just won't get him and they'll be another something along we like just as well for less money and less hassle.

No flames from me, but I wouldn't blame the buyers or the sellers, but Disney.
Instead of making 3,000 Darth Mickeys, why not make 30,000 so everyone can get one? By making Darth Mickey such a limited edition, Disney is creating the demand, not the ebay buyers or sellers. And I really don't get that....You'd think Disney would want to be making the money instead of creating such a market for the ebay sellers.

You can't really blame the sellers....they know what people want and are willing to stand in line for hours and hours to buy the Mickey's...and for the buyers, many don't live near Disney and are fans so how else would they get one? And even if you are at Disney, I personally can't think of ANYTHING I'd stand in line for that long on vacation time.
