Star Wars Half Marathon ** Check In ** January 14-17, 2016

I'm in for the 5K. Ended up registering then my friends decided not to go, so I'm on my own. Kinda weird to think I'll be showing up and walking by myself, but its RunDisney so at least I'm at my happy place.

Well, if you see a goofy lady wearing R2 ears I'll be running by myself in the 5K as well! My daughter is doing the 10K so I'm on my own!

Did everyone see that the costume policy has changed?

Costumes: What's New
For runDisney participants ages 14 and older:
• Layered costumes, that could conceal prohibited items, are not permitted (e.g. Jedi robes).
• Costume props, including those that surround the entire body (e.g. Death Star, UP House) are not permitted.
• Costumes may not reach or drag on the ground. (e.g. full-length Princess dresses)
• Capes may be worn if the length does not go below the waist.
• Costumes may not contain sharp objects, pointed objects or materials that may accidentally strike another Guest.
• Themed T-shirts, blouses, sweatshirts and hats are acceptable.
• Acceptable accessories include: transparent wings, plastic light sabers, toy swords, and tutus. Headwear may be worn as long as it does not cover the face.

REALLY glad I didn't decide to make myself some Jedi running robes, and that my current costumes don't have layers or involve any props. Last year, there were some awesome runners dressed as TIE fighters, and another with a tauntaun, and it sounds like those would not be allowed any more. I'm guessing Rey's staff would be out, too. I understanding the reason, but the timing is TERRIBLE.

This year I am doing the 5K with my "newly" 5 yo daughter. I know she can go the miles, but so far in practice we are pushing the 16min/mile. I am hoping she gets a good adrenaline rush during the race and runs a bit more than we do in training runs, but who knows. Do they really sweep people up during the 5K if they fall behind the 16min/mile? She will be devastated if she can't finish, but I am not sure I can get her to keep up with a pace to keep her under 16min/mile.

And total bummer about the costume rules. Last year that was half the fun of all the races was running with so many people in awesome costumes!

The costume rule timing is TERRIBLE.

Online, people saying that you can bring your costume to runner relations at the expo to see if it's okay. My General Leia dress has an overlay that could easily be considered layered or a cape. I'm not super happy.

Guess it's time for a backup plan!

I could be wrong, but I think that the 5k is considered a "fun run" and doesn't sweep.

You're right. :goodvibes As long as you're moving forward you should be good. Last year, I was walking back to the hotel and it was over 1:15 and people were still coming out of DCA onto DTD.

What they *could* do is have the layers carried in. That way they can see/feel that there's nothing hidden without having to search a *person*, and then once you're through security just put them on. But Disney is never very logical...

I would be annoyed by someone carrying Rey's staff anyway; I'm on the shorter side and for some reason things that are on others (stinkin' wings, both pixie and Buzz!) or carried by others are always right at my eye level.

Thanks for all the encouragement. I know with Disney I'm not alone, but it just seems weird to not have anyone to share the fun with at the starting line.

As for costumes, I was debating between a Jedi robe or an R2D2 skirt, glad I went ahead an ordered the skirt. I agree, timing was terrible. I feel for the folks doing the WDW half this weekend, they only had 3 days warning and many were probably already at the resort.

I'm more like a 20 min mile and I've never gotten swept, but I do know they sweep the 5Ks. I have friends who stopped for the photo ops (long lines) and they got swept.

Little late to the party but we are coming in from KY on Thursday. It will be myself and our son for the 5K friday, and my attempting my first half on Sunday. The weight loss slowed so there are a few more pounds than I had hoped when I signed up last year, but I am under 15 mins/mile and am ready to go. This is our first trip to CA ever and we are beyond excited.

Just want to wish everybody good luck next weekend and safe travels this week! :darth::chewy: :cheer2::cheer2: Had to defer b/ c I'm still having problems w/ my back so playing it safe. See everybody at othe races this year or SW next year!

oh no Kim! I'm sooo sad to hear this! I hope your back gets better super fast so you can do Tink! (And RnR SF!)

I'm solo too, kinda. My husband & I both are doing the 1/2, but he runs while I walk/run (mostly power walk)... He is a corral ahead of me, but usually hangs back in my corral while we wait for the start. After that, I meet him at the end! :-/ Haha, it's really fine, he wants to go faster than I can. There are always lots of friendly people all over the course and I try to get into a "zone" anyway. As someone said, at a Disney race you're never alone! :)

Thanks! Back is a little better today. Forgot to put on a patch, but while it's still tight it's more manageable. I'm hoping it gets better throughout the week and I can get a couple miles in this weekend. I'll definitely be at those races. Not sure how pretty and good my legs will be for SF, I have Oakland 2 weeks before and a 10k in New Orleans the week in b/w the 2, but I'll be there. And Tink... I'll crawl to the finish to keep my status for that one. :rotfl2:

If staying at the Disneyland hotel, what's the best time to get in the coral for the 5k, 10k, and 1/2? Thank you!
I'm not sure if you're asking what time you actually need to be in your corral, or what time you should leave DLH, but the official answer is that you're supposed to be in your corral by 4am. If you're in one of the first few corrals, or you want to start at the front of the corral you're in, I'd aim for that. However, we've gotten to our corral as late as 4:45 and had no troubles. Be aware that with the new security policies, it's worth giving yourself a little extra time.

I'm planning on being in my corral by 4:45 for the 10k and 4:30 for the Half. Last year I stayed at PPH and was in my corral around 5:00. With the new security checks in place, I'm giving myself more time this year.

Made it to town tonight. Alaska Air somehow gave my seat to someone else, but I got it back (and the guy got an exit row). Then we ended up on the shuttle from Hades ("supersaveshuttle dot com, except there's no such website despite all the stickers on the van saying that) going 90 on the highway from SNA. Scary. On the other hand, we got to the hotel really really REALLY fast.
