Star Wars Guided Tour Worth It?

I am about to start developing my touring plans for each day. However, before I do, there is one aspect I would like to get opinions on, from those with experience in it. I am looking at doing the Star Wars Guided Tour, and wanted to know if those who have done it have felt if it was worthwhile or not.

Don't know when you're planning to go, but it's changing significantly on Oct 1st.

The last week of September actually. Aside from the dessert party no longer being part of it, are there any other changes you know of?

Is this something 2 adults would enjoy?? I have the dessert party reserved but wondered if this would be worth the extra expense?

Not in Sept. Minor changes have already taken place. Tour guests no longer enter the party before regular guests and the souvenir gift has changed.

Well, the reason I was asking is if there is any noticeable improvement I may put it off for another trip. Always best to make informed decisions.

Many feel that by eliminating the dessert party from the tour, it has been devalued. Maybe, maybe not. The price will be adjusted to $99 beginning Oct 1st.

It certainly would seem that way, but Disney may yet add something to make up for it. I was doing the Dessert Party either way(I want good seats for the fireworks), but the tour seems like it may be a nice upgrade. I don't really see it as a standalone tour as much as an upgrade to other experiences. At least that is how it feels to me.

DH is a huge Star Wars fan. I booked the tour for Father's day as a special gift for him.

We thought the actual tour was just ok. It was raining really hard that day, so much of the tour was canceled. Disney can't help that it was raining, totally out of their control. They did take us through Toy Story and we got to meet Darth Vader as a substitute.

The lunch was at the Backlot express, it was not very good. The food was luke warm, yucky!

The best part of the tour, was getting into the desert party early. Our tour credentials let us meet Chewy/Kylo and BB-8 with out standing in line.

We did get a lot of information on the artwork that is shown.

Now that they are taking away the dessert party, I would not book this tour again.

I will be there just before the dessert party is removed from the tour. I am ambivalent about the choice of restaurant but the rest seems ok. My biggest concern is the time commitment though.

So disappointed to see the changes, we were going to do it but I think without the dessert party, even with the price reduction probably isn't worth it for us.

We just returned from WDW and I'd say that the guided tour isn't worth it without the dessert party. Our family loves Star Wars - our only true complaint about the tour is that there just arent enough interesting Star Wars activities to do for the 7 hours of time committed. The Path of the Jedi movie is like a DVD extra and nothing special and the CMs didn't add a lot of info as we walked from place to place. The special entrance to Star Tours and info about the ride and its design was fun and DD (11) enjoyed walking with the first order in the parade. The special viewing area for the quick stage show was nice but not necessary the day we were there. It was blazing hot and the tour CMs gave us plenty of bottles of water and cool towels, which was nice. We learned about a good hidden Mickey in the Launch Bay exhibits (highlight of the tour for my DH!). During the dessert party, the guided tour gave us line breaking rights to Kylo Ren and Chewy but not BB-8 and the lines were super short anyway. Dessert party was ok - yummy bread pudding and bc of the open bar would be better value for heavy drinkers, which we aren't. The parting gift was a giant plastic tie fighter with a strap that you can get as a souvenir popcorn holder at a popcorn stand-- shoving three of these into our bags for the way home was a packing feat! The fireworks/laser show is awesome but you can see it well from lots of places and non-tour people were in our roped-off zone, maybe from FPs? All in all, while a fun day, we thought it would have been better if the CMs, who were perfectly pleasant - nothing against them, had more inside information or were involved with the movies somehow. They didn't add much at all. The Backlot Express food was truly awful but we met a nice family at dinner so it was fun. Jedi training was rained out (tour gave us ponchos and we rode Toy Story Mania instead) and they scheduled DD to come back to do it another day- I hadn't planned to return to DHS during this trip so it changed our plans for that day (no biggie for anyone other than me, since I plan our days!). When we returned, the Jedi training rescheduling had not been set up correctly and DD was scheduled to do it on a day after we went home, obv not helpful. After a little confusion, the CMs figured out what happened, let DD participate then and there and gave us lots of FPs for our trouble, which was fantastic except DD used them to ride star tours three times in a row ! In any event, if they take away the dessert party I just don't think it's worth the price anymore. I kind of wasn't sure it was worth it even with the dessert party but if you added up the value of all the things you get, it was a good deal. Our family enjoyed it because we enjoy anything Star Wars!

I am actually a sci fi and fantasy writer in my daily life(and coincidentally live a half hour from a small town cinema that George Lucas himself designed the sound system for....first film shown there was Episode I back in 1999), and Star Wars has always been a big part of the reason I went into sci fi. That said, the big character for me is Chewie. Kylo Whine is more like a two year old Vader wannabe to me. The Disney films don't feel written to suit the fans of the Original and Prequel trilogies to me, so those characters matter less to me(unless I was actually meeting Rey, then I would have to get her holo frequency). Thank you for your very thorough input. I would say those people not on the tours were probably dessert party people.

Hi Brad! So cool that you are a sci-fi and fantasy writer in real life!! I agree the folks in the fireworks area were dessert party but several other groups were led in from a different entry point by CMs as well. It wasn't crowded the day we were there because the weather was so bad so maybe the preferred area would be helpful in busier days. That fireworks show was SO good! We loved it!! :)

The viewing area is actually for the dessert party guests and is not a dedicated viewing area for tour guests. Currently the tour includes the dessert party, so everyone at the party is allowed in. When the changes take effect in Oct, and as a consolation, tour guests will be allowed into the viewing area if they wish.

but several other groups were led in from a different entry point by CMs as well.
What you may have seen was straggler groups from the main group, magical moment recipients or Disney and 3rd party VIPs. Normally it's just dessert party guests.

Just starting out as a writer, but realized I was good at it along the way. I have been considering doing just the dessert party since I am more into the older characters than the new one. If I do that, I was going to put the money I save on the Starlight Safari, if I can get a slot. Choices, choices.
