I agree. It seems to go against the whole 'total immersion' spiel we have been hearing with names like that being pretty meta

full agree (you said what I was trying to say much more eloquently)

Really hope we don't see like BB-8 plushes and stuff for sale - make it unique stuff and things that would actually exist on an outer rim planet

a carbon freeze doesn't have to be about Han.
Didn't they freeze many things in carbonite before Han got forced in?

This is true. Han was the first human subject as Vader wanted it tested before using it on Luke. I still think it is dangeroulsy flirting with the lines of immersion and meta references though.

I get that, but I would be that for 99% of Star Wars fans when they heard "carbon freeze" the first thing they will think of is Han in Carbonite. Just think if they really want to distance this from relating tot he core movies and be it's on separate and independent place, the best option is to avoid anything like this

I understand your point, but I'd also wager more than 50% of visitors won't understand the difference and will still be expecting the original trilogy storyline. Naming of a drink is about as micro detail as you can get. I mean carbon is just an element that is likely in a billion things in the Star Wars universe.
Carbon Freeze is in the book the author is citing, it's not confirmed it will be in the park. Regardless, if it's in that book then it's official and authentic. No doubt the book is reverse engineered from the land, but that is irrelevant. If the book mentioned a Mountain Dew, or a margarita, then it's official.

I mean, I am on a message board chatting about a still in development land at a Disney park related to a movies series ..... I sort of live for "micro detail" ;)

Though I do get your point that most guests won't think negatively about it and actually might like the reference - and just a small portion (e.g., me) would get our knickers in a bunch

Any Star Wars geek worth their salt would know it's a generic industrial process, and almost no one in the Galaxy would think of it in relation to Han Solo.

:P

The entirety of WDW is strewn with arcane references that only the most devoted fans would recognize. The place appeals at so many levels.

I'm thinking Tattoine Traders will remain a Star Wars store then... and they can sell that stuff that is overtly movie references back out in the main DHS then!

I just want to see ewoks guys. Hope one of those is hanging out on the outer rim. ;)

I could see a drink called the "Thermal Detonator" using Fireball served in a replica grenade; And those days are long gone for me.

I have to say, I always check Disboards for solid rumors about openings and most of the time everyone is pretty accurate. So I'm kind of disappointed that no one has gained any insider info on GEs opening month just yet. Really hoping for late October/early November!!

I expect November. I think its still a bit too early to nail things down.

I'm not a Star Wars fan, I'm more of a Star Trek fan. I've seen the movies but couldn't give you any details about drinks served or planets or anything, so I won't be able to critique the experience in the kind of details a tried and true fan might be looking for. That said, I am looking forward to it, whenever it arrives but not in any hurry to get to see it. I just love watching for anything new to arrive at Disney.

I'm thinking it will be just like Panadora, it will be so well done that people will enjoy it whether they are a fan or not.

"Other drinks, like the Fuzzy Tauntaun and the Carbon Freeze"

ugh, not a fan of that ... really going to have a drink the references Han getting frozen? Why would that be such a thing in the outter rim?

Carbon freezing is a process used for transporting highly volatile gases. They reason Cloud City had a carbon freeze set-up was because of its use in gas transportation.

But it's still a little lame to name a drink that.

Anakin, Obi-Wan, and group of clonetroopers used carbon freezing to smuggle themselves behind enemy lines in The Clone Wars season 3 episode 18, "The Citadel".

You're right! Completely spaced on that episode/arc. Guess it's time to rewatch the whole series again :D

They are naming/building an entire attraction after a ship from the original trilogy. I don't think a drink named after a a transportation process will break the emersion.
