Did Disney add the Star Wars Days to the dates in early 2016 to inflate the already absurd rack rates for their cruises?

Chicken/Egg

Not sure which came first but the cost of these cruises are certainly high. Still, I'll bet they book a lot of these. :sail:

We had our cruise booked prior to the Star Wars announcement, and a comparable room is now over $3,000 more. The demand is high, so the price goes up.

No, it's actually a device for them to get more bookings during a slower travel period but of course if demand is high, prices go up. Supply and demand, no surprise

I just looked and your right its 3k more for one day of star wars.

Now I love star wars but holy heck 3k for one day lol, hope the hype is calmer in 2017 when we plan to go.

No, I don't care for star wars. Just noticing that those dates are quite a bit higher. But I will say, its seems as a good marketing idea for the slower months. For those who got in before the addition of them, got a good deal I suppose. I bet if they are any VGT or OGT prices released for them, they will still be considerably higher.

When we sailed in March, one of the concierges mentioned that January was so slow, they were practically upgrading folks for free into the concierge rooms. She said the Fantasy was quite underbooked. I think the Star Wars cruises are a great way to make sure that doesn't happen again. We definitely considered it, but only bad weather cruise (cold & no Castaway Cay) was in January so we are passing - too much money to risk winter weather issues.

The prices are higher now because the cruises are selling. Before the SW cruises were announced, those cruises were at the lower tier levels. DCL added it to help with sales, which moves the tiers.

If the prices have gone that high, it's due to demand so the likelihood of *GT rates is probably going to be low.

Not necessarily. Sometimes they raise the price so much people stop booking. Happens a lot. People aren't idiots their not going to book at ridiculous prices. Any rooms that don't sell will be discounted.

When you do book in 2017, book early in case they add some special thing to your cruise. If we did not book early before the Star Wars announcement we would not be sailing.

I haven't looked into what dates we want to go yet but I will book as soon as they are released

What works for us is we get next year school calender and plan from there, but I am sure 2017 school calendar is not out yet.

I am scared to go back into my emails and see what we could have paid for our January date prior to the announcement about Star Wars ... we have since changed to the Fantasy but now are thinking we will have to revert back to the shorter 4 night Dream cruise ..

Unless I'm missing something, the cruise has a Star Wars DAY at sea. So for a mere $3000 you get to be part of a ship's passenger crowd of about 3500 people attending some Star Wars activities on a single day? Maybe a character meet and greet, perhaps Jedi training, etc. (similar to Star Wars weekends). So perhaps a total interaction of 5 minutes personally with a character, seeing characters walk around on the ship, and the privilege of watching live show(s). $3000? Think not.

I was not impressed with the Christmas or Halloween cruises. I can't imagine this will be any better. I bunch of people standing in line for hours to have their picture taken with somebody dressed up in a Star Wars costume. Wow sounds fun doesn't it. I think I'll pass too.

It's called business, all companies do this. They charge what they believe people are willing to pay. If booking is really slow they lower the price or give discounts. Why are so many people putting down people that love Star Wars? And we were on the Disney Fantasy over Christmas 2014 and LOVED IT!!!!!!!! My family and I would highly recommend cruising over Christmas.
