Star Trek

Well, I suppose that depends on what your kids are used to watching. I wouldn't take my 8 year old but my sister in law is most definitely taking her 5year old. My 8 year old has nightmares about everything. We just saw Night at the Museum and she told me she thought some of it was scary. :sad2:

There are, or course, many battle scenes. One slight sexual situation. There is much that will go over a younger child's head but they will still get the larger storyline.

Anyone else have an opinion?

There is the briefiest of kissing scenes and both men and women in their underware. There's only one bad word and I don't recall any gore at all (there may have been some blood from fighting scenes). There are deaths but generally quick. One death scene is pretty emotional but nothing I think would distress a child (not like Marley & Me, lol).

I wouldn't hesitate to take my child to this movie - but that's just my opinion. :)

DH and I just saw Star Trek today. Spock totally looked like my brother (before my brother started losing his hair and buzzed the rest of it). I noticed that Spock looked like my brother about 30 minutes before I realized he was Silar from Heroes. :rotfl2:

I never watched the old Star Trek but heard really good things about this movie...It was excellent. Gee, I thought I was the only one who had an eye for Young Spock. You guys are so right -- definitely HOT! Oh and Nero....REALLY hot!! I kept wishing he'd be on the screen more!

I saw the movie, I thought it was good, not the best imo. Maybe I need to go see it again, so that I can see if I like it better then the first time?

We are from Iowa too and decided that the New Madrid fault finally gave in and gave us a super earthquake and created the canyon, or Martin Marietta moved to Riverside and had a mine blow up.

I'm chuckling to myself because obviously I have no taste in men :rotfl:. I loved the movie but I hated Spock! I thought he looked dorky & kinda fakey -- I just couldn't relate to his character at all :confused3. I've never watched Heroes, so the actor is unknown to me.

Kirk didn't do much for me either in terms of hotness, but that may be because I'm still madly in love :love:with the original Kirk :lmao:

Okay, I've seen the movie twice and I am very impressed with the knowledge you all have of the past episodes and how they relate to this movie.

I was just wondering if any of you also thought that Sulu was kind of cute. He reminded me of Robert Pattinson. (I hope I typed that correctly.)

Did anyone notice:

When young Kirk was taking the Kobayashi Maru test (the one where he cheated by changing the computer program), he was eating an apple.

In Star Trek 2:The Wrath of Khan, Capt. Kirk was eating an apple when he told Bones about being the only person to ever pass the test.

I LOVE it that the writers put that apple thing in the new movie. VERY clever!!!

Those two observations were previously mentioned. I saw the movie for the first time this morning and need to see it again to catch all the innuendos.

Thought young Spock farely spot on but much prefer the older Spock as far as being more Vulcan. The young Spock shows far too much human emotion but then no one can do it better than Leonard Nimoy.

I can see why no one but old Spock made a cameo appearance. It would have made a joke out of the movie.

Thought Chekov's accent a little much. They could of toned it down some.

Ulhera (sp?) and Spock, hmmmmm.........

Sulu is good looking and I thought Scotty very interesting.

I liked how they tried to get actors that resembled the old ones.

If anything, my 18 year old daughter wants to watch the old Star Trek tv shows now. My husband thought that Star Trek was on tv for a long time until I told him how it was canned after a short run. I bet those that made that decision could kick themselves now.

I noticed it - I was chuckling during that scene. DH told me I was wrong, but we watched Wrath of Kahn again and I showed him. :goodvibes

No one???

Haven't seen Wrath of Khan in quite awhile so don't recall that...

Its amazing what a 3 season sci/fi TV series from the late '60's has tunred into. I think there have been more spinoffs from this series than any other series on TV. I hope they continue to make Star Trek movies with this cast and story line.

I noticed that as well.

I loved this movie. I just saw it today, and was very pleased with it. DBF is not a fan, but he loved it as well.

So, I have a question. Since the Romulan went back in time and changed the sequence of events, there can be a whole new series of escapades that Kirk and the crew can go through. All the stuff that happened before may not happen, will happen a little differently or the same. They can re-do all the sitcoms as they see fit.

I guess they could, but there are a lot of storylines that they use for sequels.

But I wouldn't call the original series a "sitcom".
