Star Tours

Here's what I want to know- I rode the old Star Tours ride back in 2001 and liked how it was just scenes from the original trilogy, e.g. flying in the trenches of the Death Star.

Does the new Star Tours have any scenes that are set in the original trilogy (Episodes IV-VI)? I didn't like the newer movies.

Yep..I had an original trilogy scene in my one ride..

and some that are kind of mixes if you really think about it. The rumor is someone asked George Lucas about the timeline and he replied "who cares?" There are definitely original trilogy scenes and characters - man, a lot of is. But don't suspect that you are going to get a ride that is exclusively original trilogy. And the thing is, the technology is so much better the scenes look so much better.

The "theme" of the attraction takes place between the two trilogies.

There is one specific scene that is really taken from the original trilogy (Hoth scene). When it was pointed out to Lucas that it didn't fit the timeline, he reportedly said, "Who cares?" It was perfect for the attraction.

The rest take place in locations generally first seen or taken directly from the sequel trilogy, but also could be considered hybrids taking various elements from both.

Rode Star Tours twice yesterday morning. Had the exact same ride scenes both times. Was going to ride again but wait time went from 5 minutes at 8:15 to a mass of humanity and 60 minutes around 9:30.

FWIW my wife said she was slightly queasy after riding, she said the old Star Tours never gave here that feeling. I had no problems.

I rode star tours 5 or 6 times last week and loved it. I thought the scenes were much better was were the simulator effects. I was a big fan of the old Star Tours, but the new one is much better.

DH can't wait to ride it! He's worried it won't be as good as the original but I'm glad to read the good experiences!

Just got back from our first visit to DHS and this was hands-down my favorite ride of ALL 4 parks. Spoiler alert - highlight section to read: Rode it twice the 1st day we went and twice the 2nd day. Adding it all up, we had 3 different "beginnings" and 3 different "endings." It seems they have 2 parts to each adventure and mix them up. So when you make the first jump to light speed, you go one place (and we went to 3 different places over 4 rides) and then later you make a 2nd jump to light speed and we went to 3 different places over 4 rides. While one beginning and ending repeated for us, they didn't repeat together. So out of the 4 times, we never had an identical ride.

We were there on 5/25 & 5/27 (Friday of a SWW). Both days we rode with only about a 20 minute wait for each ride. (First ride on 5/25 said 20 min, but was really closer to 10).

ETA - I get motion sickness and I rode this right after eating breakfast, but having taken a bonine (similar to dramamine) earlier in the AM. I had absolutely no problems handling the ride. I made it a practice to simply take a pill at the beginning of each day and never had an issue with anything.

Actually, there are only two beginnings. The ride is broken down into four segments, making a total of 54 different possible combinations.

I love the Darth Vader beginning.

4 segments? I thought there were 3.

4 variable segments (from various sources - it will probably be a while before I see it for myself):

Beginning
First flight scene
Communication
Second flight scene

All but the first have 3 possible variations - the Beginning has two.

Gotcha. I wasn't counting the communication scene, that would make 4.

Just got back yesterday, and I absolutely loved the new version of Star Tours. I rode it 4 times during my trip and saw every segment. Talk about luck! The first time I rode it, I was impressed, and that ended up being my least favorite of all the rides. After seeing the other segments I was absolutely blown away. I won't spoil it for anyone, but if you've ridden you'll understand it when I say that I was "spotted" on my final trip.

I wouldn't really consider myself a Star Wars fan, but I absolutely loved the new iteration of the ride. On Sunday, the line stand by line was 60 minutes, and I gladly waited in the line. If you're a Star Wars fan, I think you'll absolutely love it.

THE CURSE OF THE PHASE BASED RANDOMIZATION!!!!

First of all, I love the ride. I went in knowing far more about it than I probably should have, because I already knew it was a phase based randomization with four stages each with it's own set of possibilities. I rode seven times and these were my results.

PHASE ONE: Vader x2 , Millenium Falcon x 5
PHASE TWO: Kashyyk x 4, Hoth x 1, Tattooine x 2
PHASE THREE: Leia x 3, Admiral Ackbar x 4, Yoda x 0
PHASE FOUR: Coruscant x 1, Death Star x6, Naboo x 0

I tried so hard to see Naboo, Yoda, and Hoth. After riding four times, I had seen everything else. And maybe I could have gone home and been okay if it wasn't for the twitterverse making it apparent that something amazing happens on Naboo.

We actually went back for two hours on Monday evening and we rode three more times trying to see Yoda or get the Naboo ending. I only got Hoth on my last turn and couldn't go another round. I guess those two scenes will have to wait until my next trip to the World.

The scenes I did see were amazing, each with fun details to catch when you get a chance to see them multiple times. The 3D is at the perfect level. Not so much it hurts your head, but enough to give depth and realism to the video. The AA C3PO is spectacular, and moves just as you would expect the character to move. The right sidescreen is a fun diversion if you're in a repeat scene and want a different view on the situation.

Would ride again this second if I could teleport back there from Virginia.

I was so glad I got to go opening weekend. The interaction with guests and CMs alike were spectacular. Late on the final night of the first Star Wars Weekend a CM heard our plea to see Yoda and Naboo and said: "Man, I've ridden fifteen times and got Yoda eleven. I haven't seen Leia or the Death Star!"

:rotfl2:

So the experience can vary greatly based one what scenes you see more.

I rode Star Tours 6 times last week, and was fortunate enough to see most of the segments including Naboo. By far, Naboo was favorite. Its awesome!

..... I rode that thing 5 times and not once did I get the Death Star.... I am quite jealous that you recived it so many times! Haha, other than that, I've seen every other scene atleast once.

Exactly. 2 x 3 x 3 x 3 = 54 possible combinations.

I know that :) I was the one that figured out it would be 2x3x3x3 right after they announced there would be 54 variations.

I was replying to the poster who thought there were only 3 variable scenes.

What's the strategy if I'm dead set on seeing the Hoth scene? Just go until it shows up?

At this point, yes. I have seen nothing that indicates there is any sort of pattern. It may be truly random.

Just got back from the second Star Wars Weekend, managed to ride ST 7 times. Only part we missed was the Millenium Falcon opening, got all the other sequences at least once. Just lucky I guess! They are ALL good and the 3D effects were amazing, not overdone. Though the motion seemed close to the same as the old ride, it felt smoother since it was better synchronized to the action.

Seems in mid day when autograph sessions were going on the standby wait time got down to 30 minutes, but not for long.
