Okay, maybe I missed this somewhere, but, our busdriver told us (and the bus drivers usually know things like this) that they would soon be tearing down the Star Tours ride at MGM. Not to panic, they are going to rebuild it from Episode 3 instead of Episode 6. Anybody else heard this? :confused3 I had not heard nor read anything about it, so what the driver said was a total surprise, but in a good way. My DS and I are Star Wars fanatics, so we are excited to see what the new ride will be like. He did not give us any other specifics as to time frame or whatever. Anybody got any ideas?

A while back there was a rumour circulating around that the movie was going to change to reflect episodes 1 - 3 but i have never heard any news of them tearing tearing it down. If they do , do you think i could bid on the big AT AT walker out front. That would make awesome yard art. lol

I'm a Star Wars fan 120%. If this is true, I would love to see the new ride!!!
I think it's a great idea if they do an update :bitelip:

I think an update would be great - as long as they keep it kid friendly. Star Tours is my DS's (6.5 years old) FAVORITE RIDE OF ALL TIME. He loves the little robot (Captain Rex) in the cockpit flying the spacecraft, and he loves flying through space. He's been on it sooooo much at DL, that he has the entire script memorized word for word. CRAZY! :rotfl:

Oh, I hope that rumor is true! We just returned from WDW, and that was one of our complaints - Star Tours is one of those rides that has NEVER changed in all the years we've been going! Indiana Jones is another one that needs updating. Cripes, they even updated the Great Movie Ride, why not update Star Tours?!

There's many rumors about Star Tours but none of them are confirmed yet

The story I heard that seemed most credible is that Lucas wanted to redo it for Episode I (fact that he was with Michael Eisner watching Illuminations at Epcot on 12/31/1999).

There was quibbiling about budget - Lucas wanted Disney to pay and to use the best technology. Eisner wanted Lucas to share he cost, and to cut some corners.

Anyway, that fizzled (it was to be a pod racing theme). This reemerged with the success of Episode III (talk now of a new theme to match III instead of I or the current one), but there is nothing definite that I've heard yet.

After having read the Dis boards this past year and having actually heard several rumors from bus drivers while we were there in May, IMHO, bus drivers are no more reliable sources of information than anyone else. Most of what I have seen or heard that bus drivers have said, never did happen. Take it for what it is worth, a rumor and nothing more than that.

George Lucas went on record this year saying he wanted to update Star Tours using the new digital cameras he has been using. I don't know if he meant just the film, or if he felt the whole ride in general needed a rehab. He also didn't actually specify if or when that would happen. Perhaps he was just putting feelers out. I am sure there is a lot of negotiating needed for this to take place...which would probably take awhile.

Our DSs would get along fine! My DS9 is a huge Star Tours fan. We must have been on it 30+ times at this point. He can recite most of the script, and I can tell you exactly where the rough edit is. :rotfl2:

Personally, my favorite part of Star Tours is the pre-show. Gotta love the safety talk as you prepare to board.

We were there last Friday. The Imperial Walker looks to be moved to the left of the opening, with an ewok village (with fires and "squeaks") where the Walker was. Nothing from I-III

If there was a complete list of all the posts about what a bus driver told someone, you'd be :rotfl2: .

I think a new film would make a lot of sense and be welcome if it was reasonably well done. But tearing it down is not necessary for that.

Apparently Lucas wants not only a new film, but also all new ride vehicles.

We just returned as well and were told that the Indiana Jones Stunt Show is closing in the near future. I always liked the Indy show, so we made sure we saw it this trip.

I love Star Tours and would love an update, but not with the newer movies. JMHO. ;)

Hey guys, just talked with my sis-in-law who is at Disney now. I had asked her to pick up an R2-D2 unit for my DS for Christmas. She called to tell us that there were no more of them (there were like 10 of them last week), and actually, almost everything was gone from the Star Tours shop. So, maybe the rumors are true!!

I'm a little excited to see a new Star Tours. I love the one they have now, especially the flying glacier part, but a new twist would be pretty apealing. Pod racing would be fun too

I just rode it for the first time this trip, but I think an update would be great! Ride vehicle technology has advanced so much since they built it, it would be neat to see what they could do!

I really wish they would add some more SW-themed stuff in the same area- kind of like how after Journey into Imagination there are all of the different stations to play at? A few interactive activities after the ride would probably go over really well! (As well as be something people who can't do the ride could enjoy!) I'd also love to see some more things to pose for pictures with- the speeder is always really popular- maybe something else like that?

And now I'm going to get really Star Wars nerdy and hope for some Twi'lek stuff in the gift shop. I play a Twi'lek in Star Wars Galaxies, but all I could find in the gift shop were a couple of action figures. Twi'leks need love, too! :)
