star tours question--Did I imagine this?

I am wondering if there is one "car" on the star tours ride that does not move during the presentation. Am I crazy? I thought I read of such a thing some time ago.

My 7yo son would probably enjoy the experience if the "pod" thingy didn't move at all.

Can anyone confirm or deny this, so I know I'm not insane?

I'm afraid that I don't thinks that's the case... My girlfriend gets motion sick on rides so we couldn't ride this one (as with many of them) and since movement is an integral part of the ride, I think it's just a bit doubtful... but if disabled people want to ride, maybe there are spots?

I don't think your crazy. I think I remember reading that on a post somewhere quite a while back. But I have never seen a spot for this nor have I ever asked about it. It could also be body wars. Hopefully someone will have a definate answer for you.

kerri0616, I think what you are remembering is something that is called a "flight check." There are more than one "cars" on Star Tours and sometimes if the park is very quiet and you ask they will let you and your family go on one of the ones that has the movement turned off. This is what they do to check the ride and they call it a flight check.

The first time I asked they were too busy and I just thanked them. A few days later (mid-week and slow season) they were fine with this and I got to see the movie for the first time in many years. I can't brace myself well enough for any of the motion filled rides and it was wonderful to get the opportunity to ride Star Tours again(smile).

Also, for those who can handle some motion--the front rows are much less bumpy than the back of the car. My DS loves to wait until we can ride in the last row! Oh me oh my!!!

Yes there is a car you can try withoout the motion. Also if you tend towards motion sickness try to get in the middle of the pod. Funny thing is most of the handicapped are placed in the front at a corner. Best ride there is! BAck row too.

I know for a fact that this is the case. It may not happen every time but last May my older son was having a last minute case of the nerves and the CM pulled my DH aside and offered the no motion version. They rode in the first car without motion and my sister and other son rode "regular". My DH did say that without the motion it wasn't as cool but it was the only way we all could have ridden - we were about to send them out the chicken exit when the CM offered the alternative. Please note that there was NO WAIT at all and so maybe that's why it was possible.

I rode the "non-move" one at Seaworld with my son when he was tiny. I think there was a back row that didn't move. So it IS possible...

Are you sure your son wouldn't enjoy the moving ones? Star Tours is a very tame ride. My youngest son was timid his first trip to WDW, but he rode and loved Star Tours b/c no one told him it was supposed to be a thrill ride. He was 4. By the time he was 7, he was riding everything in sight.

Tar Heel is right. It is a "tame" ride. I am a big wimp; don't even ride "Big Thunder Mountain" and I love Star Tours. It shakes and jerks but it's FUN. My little ones were 8 and 5 their first time and they loved it. Unless you have someone really prone to motion sickness, this ride is a hoot. If it turns out to be too much you can always close your eyes. It doesn't really move that much, it just feels like it does because it is in synch with the film. Try it!

The back row in the corners give you the most feel of motion on the ride for those who want to feel the full force of the ride. The ride is really tame. I feel that Thunder Mountain is a lark but that is just me I guess.

The front row of Star Tours and Body Wars is about the center of the ride. So the middle of the front row has the least amount of motion. I was on it once with a man from overseas. he thought they had a chicken button on it like they have on rides over there(I have not been on any rides over there, that is what he said). He was having problems early on in the ride all the way through. Maybe the no motion ride first then he may want to try a motion one and ask for the first row.
