Star Tours Opening

I'm very insterested in attending the new Star Tours opening on May 20th but I have no idea what to expect. Is anyone out there planning to attend and do you have any idea what time to be there, what will be happening, etc?

1) For SWW, people line up early outside the gates.
2) Then, make a mad dash for Fast Passes.
3) With the new ride, I would think even more so.
4) I would line up at least 1-1½ hours before park opening. *
5) Otherwise, you will be far back in the crowd.

Since it is also Star Wars Weekend, you will be at least entertained prior to opening by Stormtroopers op on the canopy covering the turnstiles. Pick a good vantage point - you might not want to be too close to the turnstiles.

A large percentage of the "really early" people will in fact be in lines for celebrity meet and greet Fastpasses, not for the turnstiles.

May 20th is a wild card right now. It is expected to be hugely busy because it is the opening both of Star Tours but also Star Wars Weekends. A large number of people may head straight to Star Tours to ride/FP, which might make TSM a bit easier to get to But it is likely to be enormously busy - so much so that they are reportedly prepping to run the Star Tours lines through the Streets of America! There is also a rumor of actually letting people in the park starting at 6am, although I'm not 100% sure it is true, now whether you can do anything except mill around for two hours if they did...

There will be a dedication ceremony for ST2 at 10:15am. I'm wondering if it will actually be open before that or not.

I'll be there as wel! If I don't get to ride the new star tours, I'm hoping the lines for the other attractions are short!

We'll be there, too. This will be our first SWW, so we have no clue what to expect, either. We're not that interested in the SW stuff, although DH wants to get some good pics of the parade.

I think our plan is to head over to TSM and pray that the rest of the crowd is headed for Star Tours!

I've been in DHS on a SWW. The parking lot was at capacity and people were WALKING in from the nearby resorts. It was much, much more crowded everywhere compared to a non-SWW day. Lines were longer everywhere, not just at ST, and the park was more congested in general.

Thanks everyone for your help! I'm not as much there for SWW as much as just wanting to be there for the opening of Star Tours and that dedication mentioned above. I'm not really interested in tthe parades or characters since I have already been to SWW and am I actually planning to attend another week. I am thankful for that dedication info though; I'd love to see George Lucas and Hayden Christansen and just be there for a semi-historic event. I might just be going for the ST2 event and go home right after; I'm looking forward to the rest of the madness that may ensue during that day lol

The 6AM thing is a charity breakfast. I saw a thread on here about a week or two ago - I think it was like $40-$50 for breakfast. It's a smart charity, because you know some of those crazy SW fanatics will be hungry after sleeping at the gate all night long!

I know about the charity breakfast...that's one particular day. This was for all three days of the first weekend and for general admission. But there hasn't been any confirmation yet.

I believe the re-opening ceremony of ST2 is to begin at 10:00 am on the 20th
