Has anyone gotten dizzy/motion sick on Star Tours? DH and ds4 went on last year and dd and i didn't go (i was afraid we'd get motion sick). DS really wants me to go on with him on our upcoming trip, and i'd love to, but i don't want to ruin my day by getting dizzy, which i have a hard time overcoming. I went on a simulator ride years ago in my teens and was fine, but over the past few years i get motion sick and/or dizzy very, very easy (i'm 38 now). if i turn my head too fast sometimes i'll get dizzy, so i'm not sure about it. i don't do dumbo anymore for this reason. OH, last trip i got a little dizzy on TMRR, which i was surprised at.

boy, i'm turning into an old lady! :rotfl:

you know it's weird, I've been on Star Tours countless times and I've never gotten motion sickness. but on my most recent trip I did. However, I think this may have happened because I had just gotten over the flu.
If you are prone to motion sickness, it may be a ride you'd want to avoid.
from my overall experience in riding it though, it's not too turbulant.

The only ride I've ever gotten motion sickness from is the teacups.

I don't get sick on loops, drops, spins, heights or anything else, but for some reason...simulator rides make me ill.

I rode it and felt queasy but nothing too major. I think when the motion of the ride doesn't really match what I'm seeing, it does me in.

I also got sick watching the Blair Witch Project.

I'm with Miller ..give me loops, turns and drops, nothing but you put me on Star Tours and its over. I sometimes do go on and close my eyes on some of the scenes and its not as bad. A cm told me that the timing of the movie to the ride was off and it needed serious updating ( no kidding!). He had even said alot of people get quesy, it usally only throws me off for a few minutes though!! Good luck!

I thought I read somewhere that there is one motionless Star Tours simulator - you'll have to ask when you get there.

I did STAR TOURS once (having no idea about it)...I HATED IT!!! I will NEVER do it again.

Too much for me with my motion issues....way too much!!! :rolleyes2

I was a little worried about Star Tours & motion sickness before I rode it. However, during the "ride" right about the time I thought I was feeling a little strange the screen would stop moving and go to more of a stationary scene. It seemed like it did this a few times throughout the ride. This helped me a lot. I do not know if it is planned that way to reduce the affects of the simulated motion. Regardless, I ended up riding it twice without issue.

I have meniere's disease which is an inner ear/balance disorder that causes dizzy spells and motion sickness. I took water pills for a long time and it has been in sort of a remission and since there were not a lot of sings warning about being sick on Star Tours the way there are signs everywhere for Mission Space, I stupidly thought it would not be that bad. I went on it with my husband and it was so bad that I don't even know what was going on on the screen because half the time I had my eyes closed trying to trick my brain out of the motion sickness. When the ride stopped I actually had to just sit there for a few minutes and then I went outside and almost fell down and ended up sitting at the food stand that was nearby for about 40 minutes until I no longer felt like I was going to throw up.
If you get motion sick at all I would not risk going on this ride. I did not enjoy ANY of it. It was horrible. It was the only bad experience I had at Disney World.
Just my opinion.

Though it's no help to you, I never had a problem with Star Tours. Perhaps it's because my brain could always easily figure out which way was "up" and so I never got a sense of imbalance. While it's virtually the same ride (but with a different story line) the opposite is true of Body Wars. For some reason, that ride was one I simply couldn't handle. Maybe it was the visual enclosure of the arteries/veins, I don't know. Fortunately I didn't get sick, but I came darn close. I spent the last 45 seconds or so -- though I know it felt longer -- with my eyes closed, hoping I didn't cause a "clean-up in car three."

2 years ago I rode Star Tours and it ruined the rest of the day for me. I got so motion sick that I missed Fantasmic that evening. My DW and DS love the ride, but I'll never get on it again!!

I get motion sickness like crazy - especially on the simulator type rides. Once I found the Scopolamine patches you place behind your ear I became fearless. Now I can ride most anything and I never get sick - exception to that is Body Wars - eeks I thought I was going to lose my lunch. Had a headache for the remainder of the day. Besides the extreme dry mouth and the trouble seeing small print, I highly recommend the patch.

There is another thread on the use of ginger to help with motion sickness, and it seems to help a lot of people. I think I will look for the giner capsules before we go again.

I also suffer from motion sickness. The first time I went on Star Tours I was sick all day. I've avoided it since then.

Our last trip was just DH and myself, so I went on with him and kept my eyes closed. It worked but I saw nothing. I kept my eyes closed from the time I sat down till it was over. I was able to peek during Soarin.

I've used the patch (behind ear) on the Cruise and it worked. The only side effect I had was the dry mouth. Maybe I'll try that next trip to WDW.

If you're afraid about being sick, you can try to take a seat at the middle of the row. Being far right or far left is more "shaky (?)"

Wierd isn't it. I too have no problem on Star Tours but came off Body Wars very green about the gills-wonder why? I also had a problem with Back to the Future, over on the dark side :rotfl2: but thats understandable cos the De-Lorean really does throw you around.

There isn't a simulator dedicated to not moving; You just ask for a "test flight" and they program one of the simulators to not move but play the movie.

Could you explain exactly how it works. How could you have non moving simulator for your own ?

I'm actually doing my college program at Star Tours right now. Our motionless flight is called a Flight Check. It's part of our opening procedures to test the video, audio and other effects. The common misconception is that we can do flight checks all the time, but this is not the case. We offer them for children who are not tall enough to ride the motion ride when we are not busy. Generally when we are busy we cannot do them, because it ties up a simulator that should be used for guests wanting to actually ride the ride. So, if the wait time is around 10 minutes, feel free to ask, but don't get your hopes up too high because it's not a guarantee. We try our hardest to accomodate everyone (especially those who otherwise would not be able to ride), but there are a lot of factors involved.

I hope that answers some questions. Oh, and if anyone's coming down before May 12th, come see me at Star Tours! I'm the only Josh there.

May the force be with you! (I couldn't resist)

I notice someone mentioned the "patch" that you put behind your ear, I always use Dramamine (non-drowsy). One pill lasts 24 hours. I don't get the dry mouth that is associated with the "patch" with this. :wizard:

Another option is the wrist bands that many use on cruises, although I find these warm and uncomfortable.
