Star Tours and Motion Sickness

I very strongly suggest gravol or dramamine if you are prone to motion sickness. Works like a charm. Make SURE you have it in your system for at least 1.5 - 2 hours before trying the ride out, and make SURE it is not already out of your system, by trying this ride at the tail end of taking it.

It makes me feel sick to the point where I need to rest in the hotel.
DBF gets motion sickness easily and he refuses to ride even after taking motion sickness pills.

Yes. Star Tours is the only ride that makes me motion sick. I get mildly car sick sometimes but this is the only ride in DLR that gets me feeling pukey(I have never actually puked). I will sometimes still go with friends(I limit it to once per trip for me), but I keep my eyes closed for most of it. ESPECIALLY the lightspeed parts. Those are the worst parts for me.

Actually: I take it back. I also have to close my eyes during the very beginning of Space Mountain when the lights spin in a circle around you. That doesn't ruin the whole ride for me though.

Puke fest, LOL? I can say I have never seen anyone puke on ST so the answer would have to be "No".

Now, does ST make some folks feel motion sickness? Like me? Yes.

The old version of ST got bad for me as I got older past say 30-35 years old. I stopped riding it altogether. The new version I do ride and I have less trouble with. It still gets me a little but it wears off quickly.

In general I do not have issues with motion sickness. I do on things that spin for sure. Since I got to be an adult. But planes and cars do not bother me.

Most reports from people who rode the old ST and the new ST just opened in 2011 is that people have less of an issue with sickness on the new ride.

I've read this. And can state, from personal experience, this isn't universally true. Based on reading this DW and I did the new ST on our first trip after it opened. And we were both very sorry we did. Puke? No, because she was smart enough to keep her eyes closed the entire time. I watched the first scene, then had to keep my eyes closed. I felt much worse afterward than she did

I find it to be worse than the original ST.

YMMV,
Bob

It doesn't make me puke, but as others have said, it makes me nauseated. It is the only ride I have trouble with. I dread the pod race. That one is the worst for me. Other versions don 't make me nearly as sick.

I never get motion sickness, however on my first time on the new ST I did experience a feeling of nausea at the beginning of the ride. It went away quickly. On my 2nd ride the same day I was fine.

I have a problem with motion sickness & the old Star Tours made me sick. Since they've redone it, I've been ok.

Yep the new ST is a tough ride for me. I have to keep my eyes closed throughout much of it. The old ST never bothered me, but I think the change is due to the lovely wonders of the aging process. Now even TSMM can make me a little woozy as the ride vehicle squiggles between screens if I don't take the 3D glasses off. I tried non-drowsy dramamine once, and it still made me sooooo tired. Oh well still plenty of fun to be had at Dland.

Oh dear....I used to get brutally motion sick on the old ST. Better take a bit of gravol/dramamine before riding the new version! Thanks for the heads up everyone!

I am one who used to get motion sick on the OLD version. On the new version I do much much better. When it goes into the hyper-speed mode, like the stars flying past you quickly, I do close my eyes briefly, and I seem to tolerate the new version much better. It's DS's FAVORITE ride, and I used to dread it, now not so bad. And I can't go on Space Mtn because it does make me sick.

This was the only ride that made me nauseated last week. Other than coming from the airport in the back seat of the van. LOL!

DH and I went on it in Jan 2010 and he threw up the entire time. This was during the horrible rain that closed DL early a few days. We had just gotten off Space and walked right on to ST. He started throwing up as soon as it started. Luckily, there was no one near us. Poor soul only went to DL on that day and hasn't been back yet. It was a miserable trip!
Note: that was pre-refurb, but I'm sure he won't try it again!

Just to add my two cents:
I will not ride this ride! I always feel so sick afterwards that I can't do anything else. I stand in line with my family; then, I walk through the special hallway for scaredy cats (at WDW there is one anyway). I have met many interesting people waiting on the benches outside the ride.

I don't get motion sickness, and I even get a little queasy on the new ST. So I'd recommend avoiding it if you have a weaker stomach. My cousin rode with us last year, and she was so sick that she couldn't really enjoy anything else for the rest of the day. So make your decision carefully!

I hope you can get some medication or something that will allow you to ride, it really is awesome! The new simulator is SOOOO much better!

It might sound odd but I'm GLAD I found this thread...

I've never ridden ST (Tomorrowland has to be our least visited land) but DH has been trying to convince me to ride it during our next trip in a couple of weeks. After reading all this... I think I'm going to pass. I can't say whether I get motion sickness or not... some things bother me (like standing backwards on the carrousels while accompanying our kids, Astro Orbiter) other things don't (Dumbo, BTMRR, Indy). I love CA Screamin' but on our last trip I felt very weird afterwards and had to pass on TOT. I just have a feeling ST wouldn't agree with me!! :)
