Hi, My wedding is Oct 1st, and my grandmother has booked us a week at Star Island Resort & Club for our Honeymoon as a wedding gift. I have read every review I can find on this resort, and they range from 5 star resort to bug infested dump. :confused3 I am looking for some information from other Disney type people. We plan to spend most of our time at WDW, but would like a somewhat romantic place to call home for the week.

Thanks,
Sam

I can't tell you first hand. But my uncle just stayed there and he told us he was disappointed in it. He hated taking the boat over to the island. He said it was clean enough, but not up to Fairfield resorts usual standards. Staff not helpful. I guess it's in transition, going from whoever the owner was to a Fairfield resort.
He also said it took him longer to get to WDW then he would have liked.
Not much info but a start, sorry.

We just stayed here for the first time NYE weekend. I found it very clean and pleasant. My room was amazing girl. It's totally romantic. We had a 1br deluxe what do you have booked? Our bedroom had mirrors EVERYWHERE! A HUGE whirpool with columns was in the bedroom. It's an open bedroom/bath design. The whirpool lead to a HUGE walk in shower big enough for 4! A nice double vanity and a door with a toliet and closet rounded out the bathroom area. Of course a tv. dressers ect was there too. The room was a nice pastel pink with dimmer switches in the living room and a nice balcony. We'd open the door and sit in the living room and listen to the water fountain in the lake at night. I don't think you'll be at all disappointed. They are working there butts off you can see that. We are booked to go back in a 2br deluxe for spring break with the kids. Oh did i mention a krispy kreme is only 1/2 mile away! The parks where a quick drive maybe 10-15 mintues. It did'nt bother us a bit. We loved coming back and relaxing in our room.

We stayed at Star Island last year and it was very nice. In fact, I'd say it was more suited to adults than families.

I have no idea what the above poster is talking about when saying her uncle hated taking a boat. It's not an actual island and we just turned off the road, down the drive and into the parking lot.

It's off very busy 192 which is a great location. The resort is off the road a ways so you feel like you're leaving it all behind.

We were in a 3 bedroom, (1 bedroom lockoff) and I agree with the above poster that the master bedroom is amazing. Big tub, pillars, mood lighting, mirrors.

Staff was extremely nice, helpful, and pool area was pleasant.

It's a very quick drive to WDW. Took us 15 minutes max.

I think you'll enjoy it.

Good luck
Jenn

Oh and I saw the TUG post which talked about roaches etc. I saw absolutely none of that. It was very, very clean.

Thanks for the replies,

PartyofSix, my grandmother handered the booking so I am not sure exactly what we have. I know that It is a one bedroom with a full kitchen, Does anybody know if that suite comes with this great bathroom I have been hearing about?.

JDM, I have read that post on the TUG along with all of their reviews, most are good, but this place gets KILLED on www.tripadvisor.com.

Thanks Again,

Sam

THe only thing i can think of on tripadvisor is that that was prefairfield ownership. Your grandmother must be a FF owner? We are platuim VIP memebers. So she could try to get you an upgrade within 30 days if she wants to if she's VIP. Okay if you get a full kitchen then you do have a 1br deluxe unit. The 1br suite is a lockoff for lack of better words commonly referred to as a B unit at most resorts. And A unit is Deluxe room at most resorts fairfield owners. Do you have your guest cirtificate? FF would have mailed you one if she put the room in your names. She must do this in order for you to check in btw. So if you have that you can call the resort give them your conf number and they can tell you if you have a suite (mini kitchen) no big tub, or a deluxe full kitchen big whirlpool. Let me know if i can help you with details. I would'nt bother making a location request with the front desk unless you are special needs all the rooms are easy access. :)

My grandmother is a member of Intervol International, she exchanged a week at her other timeshare for Star Island. The only thing that I know about the room is that it has a full kitchen. She just booked it on monday so we are still waiting for the paperwork in the mail.

Thanks for all your help

Thanks again,

Sam

If she booked it Monday it takes 48 hrs to update in the system at the resort so it's safe to go ahead and call star island and see what unit you have booked they could tell you. Just ask for the front desk. She did put it in your name right?

Don't act like I'm not even here, geez. I'm just relaying what he said. No idea what boat he was talking about. lol It also took him a lot longer then 10-15 minutes to get to the CR from Star Island. He called when he left and arrived almost a half hour later, this was around dinner time, we had a 8:00 PS at the steakhouse. Maybe traffic?
All I can say is they weren't impressed and they stay at Fairfiled resorts all the time. He did say it was clean but needed some renovations, staff not helpful. Everyone has good and bad experiences at places. Web site looks like it's nice.

Are you there?! I honestly meant no offense and referred to you as the "above poster"because, well- I just didn't feel like scrolling back to see your user id. Ouch, sorry

Of course, you were just relaying what he said. I gotta say though, it threw me and I started going around in my mind on whether we saw any boats. Nope, just black top, highway and parking lot. :rotfl:

Maybe someone else knows something I missed.

This timeshare has hugely varied reviews but I thought it was very nice. It was DH least favorite because it felt a little too gucci for him and he prefers the timeshares packed with families and frolicking children ;)

So sorry if I came off...... rude!

Jenn

Cheryl, I know they do rent boats and jet skis there but i can't imagine what island he's talking about? When you turn off 192 you go between two resturants on a new black top road and you cross a bridge to get to the resort. Crossing the bridge on the acutal gated property that is star island resort and the entire resort seemed to be surrounded on all sides by water for the water toys to come into and play. The only way it could have taking more than 15 mintues to get to ANY of the parks is if he came upon a wreck or road work which very well could happen for sure. I would and am staying here again. FF is working very hard to bring this resort up to standards of there other resorts but as it sit on NYE it was an amazing stay and i do agree it's geared more for business or adult travelers. They did have acitivites for the kids but i agree with the gucci accessment of the resort. The only thing in my opinon that i did'nt like or would or more would like to see is a bar and some type of food stop inside. There's no place to run in and get a muffin, soda, ice cream ect for kid's. We love OCean Walk it's so kid friendly! I'd highly suggest giving this resort a try for a 3-4 day trip but bonnett creek would be nicer for longer stays.
