Does anyone know if Staples will be having a penny sale this year? I am starting to see school supplies out in the stores. I will hold off for the penny sale it they are having one this year. Thanks!

Hope so. I love to stock up on that stuff. DD's VBS collects school supplies every year so I need to restock for next year!

I hope so too! I teach 6th grade and like to buy extra supplies for those students whose families can't afford them.

I hope they have the sale too... but since we haven't even been out for 2 weeks yet, the idea of back to school sales starting already freaks me out just a bit.
;)

I have a friend that works at Staples..he said that they are definitely having the penny sale, but I'm not sure when it starts...shouldn't be too much longer, the way summer is flying by :)

Last year, staples would let teachers buy more than the posted limits with their educator card! :) I bought lots for my class!

Last year the sales started the weekend after the 4th of July, so maybe this coming weekend or the next one for sure. It lasted several weeks with different things going on sale each week. And yes, us teachers can buy 30 of each instead of the advertised amount. I still have lots left over from last year, but I only spent about $5 total!

If you homeschool can you buy more than the minimum? I like to buy my supplies all at once for the year & it is irksome to buy the limit & then come back the next day to buy more.

I usually take my husband or my DD13 with me so we can each get the deal or just buy and take to car and go right back in they never say anything.:)

There is supposed to be a sale next week...but even my mgr didn't know what it was going to be yet. All the stores are setting up their back to school supplies though.

Me too I have tons left over but I keep buying more b/c I figure there will come a day when they do not do it anymore.

You have to get a teacher's card. I would at least ask or apply. We homeschool, but I was a teacher when I got the card so I still have my teacher card.

Can't wait for the penny sale. Last year we went everyday to both Staples. We donated TONS to the inner-city backpack and school supply drive!

I love the 1 cent sale at Staples. I will be there when they have it. I'm hoping the weekend after 4th of July. I don't like to think of school supplies when we're in the thick of vacation, but for that price I'll interrupt my regularly scheduled outings for some good prices. Then I can go back to enjoying my summer.

I'll have to stay on the Budget board to make sure I don't miss it. I should see the flyer though.
I already bought my DD6 a new backpack from LLBean with free shipping. She loves it, but she said she can wait to go back. She's loving her summer off!

Some of the public schools here will start back Monday. Summer vacation was only a week long for some of dd's friends. (year round schools)

I WISH our local NC schools gave that option. I much prefer year round schools. I worked in them for 16 years and am a firm believer in them (and in being on vacation when the rest of the world ISN'T!!!!!)

Last year I was in a teaching position where I was supporting brand new teachers to the field who were interning and getting their MA degrees in Special Education. We had 19 2nd year teachers and 20 1st year teachers. I put together "goodie bags" for each teacher which included a bottle of glue, a box of crayons (5 cents each, I think -- the crayons may have been 20 cents), a package of eraser tips (5 cents), a pencil sharpener, a package of pencils, a ruler, and a pencil box (all 1 cent unless noted otherwise). There may have been something else in the bag as well, but I can't remember. I put them in clear cellophane treat bags. I figured it cost me about 15 or 20 cents per bag plus the cost of the bags (which was more than the supplies!). I also bought gobs of folders and left them on the table during the orientation for them to take what they needed.

Oh, even though I could purchase 30, I'd buy my 30, take the stuff to the car and then go back in to get more. That way I had enough for everyone with extra left over. I bought a lot more of the folders though.

I can't wait for the sale. I'm back in the classroom with kids this year!

I saw it posted on another board that starting Sunday 8 ct pencils, mini Purel, and folders will be a penny. Selected items, and I am sure there are limits!

I was on another website and noticed that someone received an email directly from Staples advising the penny sale starts on Sunday. It will be folders and pencils so far that is all that is listed) :cool1: That is a good start to the back to school shopping.

If I see anything else, I will update this post.
