I want to book my room for our Nov 3 thru Nov 9 2013 stay and I dont know what to do. I really like both and there are pros and cons to both. Please help me. I would either do a Standard Poly room or the Garden Wing Standard View at the CR. This would be our first ever deluxe stay so I want to do it right. It will be Me, DH and our DS who will be 2.5 years old when we go. Any help would be great. Also I am hopping for a Room Only Discount when they come out. Are my chance better in one or the other for that?

Hi!

We've done both and like them both very much. I would say the rooms are pretty comparable.

There are not many standard view garden wing rooms at the CR. They have a view of the parking lot. THey are the least expensive rooms among monorail resorts, they they book quickly. If you want one I would book early. You can always add a room only discount to your reservation later if they come out later. There are also "garden view" garden wing rooms at the CR. THey have nicer views but are more expensive, but not much more.

At the POLY, garden view rooms are more available.

The difference between the two is mostly theming. Poly is more relaxed and resort-ish. CR is more "bustling city. " I like them both alot. DH does not care for the theming at CR, but he really likes more nature, trees, etc. I find CR a little more convenient to get to from the MK, because you can always walk no matter how crowded it is, especially at closing of MK.

Regarding a discount- I have gotten 40% off at the POLY and/or CR for three years, but the discounts just weren't as good this year. THey haven't discounted the monorail resorts as heavily as some other resorts lately. But they may come back. You never know. I am hoping for a nice discount at POLY or CR for late next year, myself!

We have stayed at both in both types of rooms and I gotta say: POLY

We just prefer the atmosphere there alot more than CR. The room size is about the same at both.

I didn't like not having a balcony in the garden-wing at CR or not being able to watch the fireworks from the beach. We always request Tahiti Longhouse at the POLY all the rooms have balconies and it is next to the beach and TTC pathway. They also have 2 great restaurants, Ohana and Kona + the on-site Dole whip.

I am afraid the days of the 40% discounts are gone.

We've never stayed at the CR, but we love everything about the Poly. My choice would be the Poly for the pool, the beach, the tropical atmosphere, and Captain Cooks :goodvibes.

We like CR a lot, but we love the Polynesian...and in truth, I am not even sure what could be a considered a standard view at the Poly because in all the years we've booked (30 yrs) there was never a std view category, only GV for the lowest cost.

If you do book Poly I'd strongly suggest making your first request a balcony, then the second request a Longhouse. :thumbsup2

Have a great time no matter where you stay!:goodvibes

The standard view garden wing rooms at CR are way less than the cheapest room at the Poly. I just booked CR for our bounceback next August because my DD thinks that walking in to MK will be really great and I agree with her. I'm not in love with the theme/decor of CR and prefer the Poly but I can't justify the extra cost with no ability to walk to a park. We stayed at YC and BCV, which are both less than the Poly, and you could walk to 2 parks. We just got back this week and the monorail was down all the time and/or was mobbed so we ended up on the boats or ferries a lot when we were visiting/eating at the monorail resorts.

Definitely the Polynesian, even the worst views are pretty great.

Thank you guys. I think I am going to book CR Garden Wing Standard View and hope that I will be able to get a Room Only Discount and change to the Poly Garden View. Right now it is a differance of about $600.00. I know that Poly is more our style, but not sure if it is worth that much more. Plus there are alot more Poly GV then CR GW SV.

Pixie Dust for a good Room Discount

Well after talking last night with DH we both decided that the Poly was more for us. Do I went and booked the Poly SV. Now lets hope that this is the year that I will get extra extra pixie dust with a room only discount of 40% :rotfl2: It could happen again, RIGHT???

Poly for sure, the CR's rooms are nice, but it lacks any real theme or immersion for me, far too "hiltony" for a Disney resort.

I completely agree....POLY is the way to go. It's a great resort! Been to Disney several times and always stayed at POLY. You'll love it no matter which view you get! The resort is wonderful....

Stay at the CR and that way there is more room for me at my favorite resort the POLY!!!!
In all seriousness i can't abide the CR. i think it pales in comparison to POLY and GF. It is cheaper though.

Once you go POLY you never go back.

Another vote for poly, but ask for a balcony. I hated my garden view room there because we were at ground level and had too many people walking by and looking in.
