Just wondering how the standard view rooms are? Are the views really abstructed? We have two 2 bedroom units for next Thanksgiving.

Not entirely sure what you mean by obstructed view. We have stayed in a 2 bedroom standard view twice and loved the view from each. All of the standard views (regardless of size) have a view of the hotel entrance, bus stop and parking lots. There is lots of nice landscaping between the balconies and the roadways/parking lot. Some of the units also have a view of the tennis courts and a small pond. If you are on a higher floor, you may also have a view of the top of the buildings in the French pavillion (EPCOT).

Many of the standard view rooms have a view of the higher level fireworks from Illuminations. These rooms are also farther from the elevators. If you do not mind a little bit of a walk from the elevator and/or do not need to worry about stairs, ask for a higher floor near the tennis courts to get the Illuminations view from your balcony. If you have strollers or someone in your party with mobility issues, it's probably best to request something near the elevators.

I'm sure you will enjoy your stay. IMHO, the standard views at BWV are an incredible value!

The views are not obstructed. Each of the four times I have had the "standard view" rooms (studio, one-bedroom twice and two-bedroom) the view has been of the main arrival area. If you are looking at the main entrance from the road leading to the BW after entering through the main gate, the rooms are on the left side. The last one we had (one-bedroom) actually looked right out on a pond (with the road behind it). Except for rooms which front the boardwalk, IMHO there is no reason to use preferred points for any other room unless you have to.

We had a standard 1 bedroom last month across from the bus stop with a great view of Illuminations, 4th floor (room 4103). It wasn't too far down the hall, just down the first hall and 3 or 4 rooms down the second. Last year we were in 3121, it was all the way down the second hall and it did seem like a long walk. Plus there was a large tree in front of our balcony that blocked part of the view. Since there is no guarantee of a Boardwalk view with preferred, I would rather go standard view and save the points (saves 34 points on our Dec stay for 6 nights).

We just had a standard studio that we were happy with. It was pretty close to the elevator and overlooked the front entrance (#4081). We could see some of the highest fireworks over the top of the building. I was just happy that I could get a standard studio over Christmas/NYE week, and save on points. ;)

Most of the standard view rooms that face the canal are under refurbishment now for new siding. We were there last week. We like to save points by requesting standard views each time.

At the last annual NWB meeting (12/5/02), the BWV General Manager said that the rehab work, including the residing project, is scheduled to complete in September, 2003. He also said that he is attempting to accelerate the work so that it can be completed in August, 2003.

We won't be heading home till Thanksgiving so that rehab schedule works for us! Thanks!
