Standard v. Deluxe

Our last cruise was a last-minute "test" cruise (seeing what it was like with baby), so we took advantage of recent discounts offered on Cat 11 Standard staterooms.

Prior to this trip, we had always been in a Cat 5 or 6 Deluxe room and noticed several differences that are not discussed frequently.

I wanted to start a post that would point out to everyone what all the differences are. So please look at these drawings of a Standard and Deluxe (with verandah) room as I begin to list the differences we noticed.

1. The most obvious difference is the split bathroom.

2. The standard room does not have the "steamer-trunk" (the trunk turned on it's side with shelves inside for storage). If you look at the deluxe room, this is the orange box at the foot of the bed to the right of the connecting door.

3. The standard room does not have the "multi-drawer" stand-alone unit. This is the orange object shown opposite the bathrooms between the closet and the connecting door.

4. Not shown in the drawings is the four shelves located in the corner of the "toilet" bathroom (corner of the back wall and the wall to the tub/shower bathroom). The standard room does not have these extra shelves in the corner because there is no corner (opens to the tub/shower).

5. Not so much a difference between the room, but a note on where the drawing of the standard room seems inaccurate.

5a. The vanity shown in the standard room seems bigger than the one shown in the deluxe room. This seems totally false, as the vanity shown in the deluxe room seems to be the vanity we had in the standard room.

5b. The TV does not sit in a unit on top of the vanity in a corner up against the closet. Instead, it sits in a square unit just like the one shown on top of the left side of the vanity shown in the deluxe room. Additionally, this TV unit is not located against the closet but instead was on the right side of the vanity closest to the bed.

5c. The referenced drawings seem to show that the closet in the standard room is just a little smaller than the deluxe room. If this is the case, we didn't notice. (Notice how the deluxe room shows a divider/half wall in the middle of the closet not shown in the standard room). I belive the two to be about the same size.

Who can add to the differences between a Standard and a Deluxe (w/verandah) room?

Who can add to the list of things were the drawings provided by DCL are not quite accurate?

Who can create a similar list referencing the Deluxe Inside stateroom (I can not because we've always had a deluxe w/verandah)?

Thank you for taking the time to do that. We were CAT5s for our last two Disney cruises (and only cruises ever for that matter) and will be in a CAT11 in a few weeks. This listing has been very helpful!

I'm not going to miss the split bath as much as I'm going to miss the storage space. Well, then there's the verandah -- :( It's okay, though...CAT11 was the only way we could afford to do another cruise this year. I'm just happy we're going (personal reaffirmation ;) ).

Thanks again!

I know that the DCL description for a Category 9 o/v is wrong, or at least not accurate for all Cat 9 rooms.

We have stayed in Cat 9 rooms several times on both decks 1 and 2 and have always had our couch closer to the window, not the bed as shown in the diagram

Also, does anyone know the actual difference between a Cat 11 and a Cat 12? They are listed as the same size...I was wondering if it had to do with how many people each can accomodate. The Cat 11 has some listed as sleeping 4 and the Cat 12 only has sleeping for 3 people.

DCL has either made a mistake or just didn't want to take the time to draw another image to show Ocean View Rooms.

If you attempt to save the image on the following two links, you will see that they have used the same image for both...

Cat 9 Ocean View
Cat 10 Inside Room

But the reality of what they do is if you have a view to the outside (porthole or verandah), then the bed is in the center of the room. Cat 6 w/Verandah

As this list is compliled, it seems that there are variations between rooms in the same catagory - for example - there are many differences for the handicapped rooms...seems the list might get pretty long...

Not all "deluxe" roopms have the steamer trunk, I found to my distress. In our cat. 9 deluxe ocean view room we did NOT have the expected trunk.

The steamer trunk is very helpful! I don't think I'd choose a stateroom that didn't have one if I could help it.

I thought the difference between the cat 11 and 12 was what floor they were on, but I could be wrong.

We had a cat 8 without a steamer trunk. It was room 5000. It would of been handy since we had 4 of us in our room but we made do without it.

I am glad you posted this topic. This is our first cruise and I have been wondering about the staterooms. We are staying in a cat 6 with verandah.

I have two sons and am wondering where they will sleep. I have read about the beds that drop from the ceiling and wonder if that is the case or if the sofa bed is a sleeper that turns into a double bed. Does anyone know?

Also, where do all of the empty suitcases go? I think I read that they fit under the queen bed, but I wonder how many of them fit under there.

I have seen a lot of posting on the cat 9 (deluxe ocean view room). Is the difference really only the verandah in the cat 6?

thanks in advance for the advice,
jeanne

I believe the INTERIOR floor space of the "deluxe" room is 214 sq feet compared to the listed 184 for the standard.

This works out to 17% more space overall, much of it "elbow" room since the beds are the same size (note a queen size bed take up about 30 sq feet itself).

Note also the 284 feet listed on the floor plan includes the verandah.

We fit two large suitcases under the double bed very comfortably. the wouldn't slide under so I lifted the bed as DW shoved it under. No prob at all.

Do make sure it is empty as I looked all over for a belt that was still in it.

Says she:
"Honey are you sure it is not in your suitcase?"
Says I:
"Of course I'm sure. What do I look like, some kind of Eejit?"
We all know how that story ends.

Yes, the diff is only the verandah from cat 9 - 6, PLUS a good bit of extra CASH.

The sofa turns into a twin bed and the bed that comes out of the ceiling is also a twin.

If the suitcases do not fit under the bed, we have moved the lifejackets out of the closet and put stuff on those shelves and put the lifejackets under the bed.

You can also ask your steward if they are able to store them for you. Some are willing to do this if you have too many. You'll love your verandah and category 6. We had room 6088.

THANKS!!

for all of the replies. I think it is really cool how the bed comes down from the ceiling. It must save a lot of space in the room. I think we are staying in 6108, so that is pretty close to 6088 and I am glad you like it.

I have a fantasy about sitting and reading on that verandah with a coffee in the quiet of the morning. I've never done that before!!!

I will adjust my packing to fit under the bed!

Thanks again,
Jeanne
