I purchased a week at BVC and paid more for a preferred view. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I had to change weeks from Feb until late April. Due to availabilty (I changed in Jan) I was downgraded to a standard view. Of course, I did not get the extra $150 I spent for the prefered room back, but I am more worried about the view than the money. I just realized a couple of days ago I'd been downgraded. I had really been looking forward to a nice view. How bad is a standard view at the BVC?

I'm guessing that BVC is a typo. I also am guessing that you are renting from a DVC member. Originally you had a Boardwalk view or a preferred view at the Boardwalk Villas (BWV's) and that now your room is listed as "standard" view for your new dates.

There is nothing "wrong" with the standard view. It is of the driving entrance to the BWV, but it could be down the building so that you don't really see the entrance, you could be close to the canal. There are rooms from which you can see some fireworks from Illuminations at night.

I'm surprised that there was a standard room available relatively close to your check in date. I suppose you should be "talking" to the person you have the reservations with.

Bobbi :)

PS. I guess I should also say that "standard view" does not mean that the room is less worthy than the "preferred view" rooms, all of the rooms at BWV are wonderful!! Yes, I own at BWV :)

I think what happened is you most likely had a Boardwalk view and because you had to change, were given a preferred view.

I agree with Bobbi, I cant see a Standard View being available that late. Are you sure you got a SV? And are you staying at Boardwalk or Beach Club?

Your view comments indicate Boardwalk, but if it is Beach CLub, then therein lies the problem.

Did you also look at the point values for your stays. It may require more points for your April stay than it would have in February. We stayed at OKW during President's week and it was 22/nite, when we go Easter time it is 25/night. So maybe the member you rented from was able to keep the same number of points, but had to get you a standard view. I too am surprised a std. view at BWV was even available. If you are staying at BCV, there are no view differences that are related to points.

It sounds to me like the OP may actually have traded in, because what renter would not refund the money if a renter goes from preferred to standard, especially if she didn't even ask for a standard??? I do know that a trade thru II, for example, will cost about $150, and changing dates carries a high monetary cost. Nevertheless, standard rooms may have as good a view as the preferred ones, so the OP didn't really lose much besides the money. She had to be talking about BWV, it's the only resort with standard view rooms.

Boardwalk view and Preferred view at BWV are the same amount of points. Also the same number of points as Beach Club Villas.

I understand that, I just think the OP is confused on what they received and where they booked :goodvibes
First when does BWV have an entire week available in a Standard 1 month before?

Also, I dont agree he should have received a refund for the change in view, if he initiated the change. Most rentals are nonrefundable, and it sounds like his member fulfilled the standard agreement to help him rebook.
Should the member be stuck with those points, because he had to cancel? I know he stated he was more concerned with the view than the money, but for others reading this thread, this is exactly how a standard agreement would work. If changes are made, all bets are off, and it is a race against the UY clock to use those points before they expire.

There is nothing wrong with the Standard view at BWV... The defination of Standard view is not a Boardwalk View, and not a view of the Canal or Gardens...

Generally, Standard view rooms can see the entrance to the hotel and (depending on what floor you are on) the parking lot... There is a nice pond with fountains and trees that tends to block the view somewhat...

IMO, the Standard View rooms tend to be quieter because you don't have the noise from the BW or from the boats in the canal constantly.

The only slight disadvantage (and you would have this with some Preferred/Canal views as well) is that there may be a LONG walk to the room from the elevators. Again, I see this as an advantage, because there is generally less foot traffic past your room door, but after spending a whole day in the parks, the walk can seem a bit long.

I'm not sure if you know this, but as others have posted, Preferred View is not Boardwalk view. Preferred view is a view of the Canal, one of the pools, or garden areas. (If you want Boardwalk view, that needs to be specified at the time of reservation.)

To be honest, the only view I would be hesistant of at this time would be the "infamous" dumpster view at VWL.

The only view that I purposely try to get is an Oceanview at VB... (Gotta love those balconies.)

Can you request a specific standard view location? We are staying at BWV late April and have a standard view room reserved for 12 nights. I am having back surgery next week and will be recovering (if all goes well). My doctor said I can still go on my trip (6 weeks between surgery and trip). So would it be better to request a standard room closest to the lobby? Though all I will be able to do on this trip is lounge, eat, and ride the people mover, I still didn't want to postpone.

You probabily should call Member Services now and make a request to be near the elevators because of the surgery.

I would also call BWV a day before your arrival and make the same request.

We are doing standard view in October and I'm excited about saving the points!
