Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the standard room and perferred room at the Disney All-Star Sports resort. I am working with Susan at Dreams Unlimited to change my reservation over from CBR to the Gold Dream Makers package at the AS Sports resort and was told that the building I want touchdown is not a perferred building, but Surf's up is. This is a solo trip so, I kind of had my heart set on staying at the touchdown building, but if the Surf's up is nicer, that might change my mind.

You will find that the inside of the rooms are the same except for the decor theme... Surf's Up (1 & 6) are both close to the food court and have a view of the main pool.

Unless being able to look out your window and see the pool is important to you, I don't think you'll care much about the view... also, when you consider that you're at WDW and walking is a major part of your day, I doubt a few extra steps from Touchdown to the food court will have much impact on you. If you have your heart set on Touchdown -- go for it!

The Football building is not very far from the food court (check a map to see how close if you are not sure). It is my "building of choice". I wouldn't pay $10. extra for the Surf's Up building--EVER. It wasn't that way when we started going to the ASResorts but now to make $10. extra, they have "preferred" buildings. I vote go with the Football building. :) I have already requested it for my trip and will also fax ahead. :) Have fun!

Just remember that if you book a prefered building room you will get that building. With a request you may or may not get that building. While the touch down building is just as close to the main building, you might be in one of the buildings father away. In the past, at movies, we have booked a prefered room to assure being close ,to the main building but this trip DS wants touch down so we too are taking our chances. Good luck!!!!!

Touchdown is our building of choice at A/S Sports. We were even in the end overlooking the quiet pool and we still loved it. We have stayed at all three A/S and IMHO, I think the only preferred section that you can justify is Calypso at the A/S Music. At the Movies, Dalmatian is closer than the Fantasia buildings. And families love the Toy Story section.

Personally I do not believe that any building at any All-Star resort is far enough away from the main buiding to justify paying $10 extra for the preferred room. There are going to be many who disagree. There was even a thread here about someone who paid for the preferred room but didn't get it because they'd overbooked (the $10 extra was refunded). There are parts of the Touchdown building that are actually closer to Stadium Hall than the further rooms in Surf's Up.

Just in case anyone's interested in making a request for a building that's close but not preferred, try these buildings (of course, requests are never guaranteed):

Sports: Touchdown
Music: Jazz Inn (note that the way Music is set up, Jazz Inn is always going to be further away than Calypso, but it is the closest non-preferred building).
Movies: Toy Story or 101 Dalmatians. Toy Story is excellent for access to the bus stops if you're in the Buzz building (#10).
