For a while there was no way you could get on another flight than what you were ticketed for. Has this changed at all. We are going Delta Sat and the flights are horrible. We used frequent flyer miles and they could not have given us a more horrible itinirary. There are several other flights with lots of seats left and once upon a time you could get reticketed and there was no penalty or fee, just that if they had the room and could get you on the plane. What's our chances? What's our best bet, origination airport or one of the other 3 stops along the way? TIA!

Your best chance is at your home airport. Call the day before and ask if the flight you are interested in is full. Then you know whether or not to head off to the airport.
