Stalking airfare strategy

I'm looking at airfare from Ohio to Vancouver for late June. It isn't pretty and there are 6 of us travelling. It's expensive and some of the cheaper options have multiple connections through places like JFK (nothing against JFK, but I don't want to fly there from Vancouver to get to Ohio). I'm planning to keep an eye on some flights to see if the price decreases in the next couple of months. Is this a pointless endeavor? Can the airline gods tell from my browsing history that I've been checking and therefore better deals won't show up? I have heard that, but I am not well versed in the mechanics of cookies etc. to know how to get around it. Any advice is appreciated!

It is pretty much a waste of time. Prices are set by demand and changed almost hourly. Your browser history has no bearing. Once you find a price you can live with then book it.

Another option if you have time is to check and see if it's cheaper is to fly in to Seattle and drive/train/bus up to VAN.
