St Thomas/St Maarten snorkle excursion question??

Can anyone who's done a catamaran/boat snorkeling excursion on St Thomas or St Maarten tell me if wearing the floaty vest is required while in the water, or is this just optional? From the videos I've watched it seems every person is wearing one. TIA

DCL will require it for visibility.

In my experience with the vests on cruise excursions (not just DCL) you have to wear it, but you don't HAVE to inflate it.

Our experience is that they're required. I assume it's a liability issue
