I was reading visitors guide to St. Thomas it said you could take Smith's ferry to Tortola. It also had a swim with dolphins thru dolphin discovery at Tortola. This is not an encounter program. Was wondering if any one had done this .

I've taken the ferry from Charlotte Amalie to Road Town, Tortola. I like the BVI a lot. I didn't do any planned excursions, though. The trip cost $40 round-trip. I did this while staying on St. Thomas, though, not while there on a cruise call.

The timing might get kind of dicey trying to get back to the ship on time. Here's a page with different ferry schedules which might help:

Unforunately, the ferry times are such that taking a ferry to Tortola from St. Thomas is impossible during a stop on the Magic. By the time you arrived, you basically have to turn around and head back to St. Thomas to ensure you'd make the ship. The ship departs St. Thomas rather early, 4:45, so going to any other island other than St. John is out. St. John is beautiful and there are ferries every hour on the hour to get there.

Thank you for the info. We will not try this. We were to do the dolphin encounter there because you can swim with the dolphins instead of an encounter.
