I am going on the DCL/Eastern Caribeean cruise, with excursions to St Thomas and San Juan.

I have been told by many, do to the organized DCL excursions

others tell me it is better to explore St Thomas and San Juan on your own. (you are more in control of what you do and better use of time on your own, versus a group)

What does everyone think?

We will be sailing 8/21, and we've realized both can be done. If you do a morning excursion, you can easily take a taxi (negotiate before entering) and explore the shops, island life, whatever in the afternoon.

may depend on what you want to do. We did a DCL Atlantis Submarine tour on St. Thomas and loved it. Beaches, you can do on your own and just get a taxi. They are plentiful. Certain other excursions it is much cheaper to do on your own and/or less crowded. One benefit of DCL excursions is they will hold the boat if you are late. Good luck.

We're going Aug 7 (CAN'T WAIT) and we decided to go to the beaches at St. John's (truck bay) ourselves. And walk around and explore old San Juan on our own. I don't know how this will work but we are looking forward to it. Hope we make it back to the ship on time!:)

We'll be right with tink 5 doing St. John beaches on our own. So if you don't make it back you'll have company!!!

In san juan my girls want to horse back ride. The males want to tour the rum factory, so we went with Disney.

I have done Coki beach on our own and found it to be very easy.
