We are looking to spend two nights in St. Augustine @ the Beach. I was wondering if anyone has any inexpensive hotels to recommend? I was leaning towards the Super 8, but does anyone know if this is a decent hotel? The price is good, about $130 for 2 nights (for 4 adults and one infant) in August (3-5)

I would like to stay near the water, since we don't live anywhere near the water. Or is there another place nearby that is just as nice, very near the ocean that would be less expensive, or just nicer at about the same price or a little more???

Thanks!

I am not that familiar w/the actual hotels at the beach, but I think the Holiday Inn is nice. I would recommend staying in town, about 3 miles from the beach or so. Depending on the price you want, there are beautiful hotels in the old-town section and some face the water (the intercoastal). St Augustine is one of my fav cities!!

Try http://www.visitoldcity.com/ this website has tons of great info.

We've stayed at the Holiday Inn and the Hampton Inn both right on the beach. Loved them both with a slight edge to the Hampton Inn. Hampton Inn included breakfast in the AM so that was a plus. One time we took the trolley tour and that included pick up at the hotel from the beach bus, last year we just drove into town and parked. Great bar and grille type restaurant across the street from the Hampton Inn, its the Sunset Grille.
