Sorry I've not responded to everyone; I've been having trouble getting on the DIS at night (and I know I'm not the only one).

Cookie's vet called me late this afternoon. Unfortunately, she does have cancer in her jaw.

That's awful. I'm sorry for the terrible news.

Kathy my heart is aching for you, Mark and Cookie !!

Thank you both.

We spoke to the doctor and will talk to her again tomorrow morning. She has a very evasive cancer in her lower jaw; she did cut most of the mass away, but it is cancerous and it grows back quickly. We don't know if it will spread or not. We could take her to an oncologist and then proceed with radiation/chemo and try to see if it helps extend her life at all.

Being that Cookie will be 13 in a couple of months and there is no guarantee that the treatments will help and give her more time (plus no one being home all day and if she gets sick from the chemo), we have decided to just leave her alone. As of now, she is quite healthy and in no pain, etc. Once we see that she is in pain or suffering or if the mass grows back and spread, then we will say our goodbyes. I watched my dad for months "not living" and we won't do that to Cookie.

It's been an emotional day -- lots of tears -- for me. First the news on Cookie and today would have been my dad's 85th birthday. But your friendship and love has helped me get through the day. Thank you all.
