Do the boats from SSR just take you to DTD. I thought I read somewhere that they took somewhere else. someone was commenting about the boats when they passed the old disney institute and I was wondering if they also took you near BW

The Friendship boats service the Epcot resorts of the Boardwalk, Beach/Yacht clubs, and Swan/Dolphin. The boats stop at these resorts on the way from the International Gateway of Epcot to the Disney Studios. They don't go anywhere else and there is no other boat service in the area.

The SSR Boats go to OKW & DTD. Not sure if they go SSR, then OKW, then DTD or SSR, then DTD, then OKW. SSR is on the old Disney Institute property. If you are talking about being able to see the Treehouse Villas, I'm not sure if you can see them from the SSR/OKW/DTD boats. I know you can see them from the POR/POFQ/DTD boats.

The SSR boats are shared with OKW, so they run both ways: OKS > SSR > DTD / DTD > SSR > OKW.
You can see the Treehouses from the water on that run or on the POR/POFQ/DTD run. Or you could rent watercraft at SSR and sightsee the Sassagoula on your own.
And while all the waterways at Walt Disney World are connected in some manner, much of it is non-navigable - so no, you don't go anywhere near Boardwalk.
