We are new DVC owners:banana: We booked using the current incentives and are surprising our kids with a trip in Dec staying at SSR. I have stayed there before (I think in the Congress Park area). We had a beautiful view of DTD, but it took forever to get to the pool and main building. Which building should I request to be closest to theme pool and bus stop?

I have not stayed at SSR yet--will be there in November. I requested the Granstand section building 8200. It is a short walk to the main pool, hospitality house and also the first bus stop on the way out and the first stop on the way back in. I heard the buses can be crowded so I'd like to avoid standing with three little ones and having to loop the entire resort at night. Just a suggestion.

Congratulations and welcome home neighbor!!

have you already gotten the SSR villa for Dec?

if so that is great!!! dec is probably the hardest month to get a DVC reservation anywhere.

Yes, we have a reservation. Our DVC guide was able to get us into a 2 bdrm villa. We have res. for the 3rd week in Dec. On another site the crowd levels for that week are very low. Now I am wondering if this is correct. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the suggestion. Is there a map of the resort that show the building names/numbers?

Crowd levels will not be low that week, although they will be lower than Christmas/New Year's weeks. Even the first two weeks of December aren't as quiet as they used to be. It is a particularly busy time for DVC properties as the first two weeks of the month are Adventure season and lots of members like to take advantage of the lower points. Expect the parks to be quite busy while you're there and SSR to be at/near capacity.

I want to know who your guide is!

You were not even an owner on Monday ... you posted asking for information because you were close to buying! And now by Thursday morning you are not only an owner, but have a hard to come by reservation for a two bedroom the week before Christmas!?! I've been an owner for 5 years and I like my guide, but I called him Monday afternoon and I still haven't gotten so much as a return call!!! I even told him we wanted to do an add-on and still no return call. And while I have never asked, he's never helped us get a reservation, much less a hard sought reservation like Christmas.

As I said, I like my guide, but you need to know how lucky you are to have a good one!

My guide's title is as a Sr. vacation guide so I don't know if that matters. When I asked him if that week was possible he said he would try and put me on hold. When he came back to tell me we had a reservation he said that had rarely happened in all his years of being a guide. He was highly recommended to me from a very good friend who has been an owner for several years.

By the way, the Springs section is really closest to the main pool, High Rock Springs and the Carriage House (lobby/restaurant).

It has a bus stop close by, but I think it may be the last stop of the route, from what I've read here -- we didn't use buses while we were there.

The Grandstand is also recommended by many, and not a long walk to the main pool/Carriage House either.

The Springs is the closest but be aware that if you are using the bus it is the last stop in & out.

Why does that matter? Well, particularly in December, expect to be standing, expect to be smushed :crowded: & expect there to not always have room & have to wait for the next bus.

IMO, each section has it's own charm. I wouldn't get too hung up on location, particularly when it's not a guaranteed request.

Hope your kids are surprised & you have a good time!

I agree with previous post in that even though Springs is closest, it may not be the best. I think you will really love the Grandstand buildings next to the Grandstand pool, 8100-8400 and 8500-8800. It is a very short walk to the main area, maybe 5 minutes at most if your younger kids are walking slow. The Grandstand pool also has a nice kids spray area. Best of all, this is the first bus stop, which may bode well with your kids. And again, a request is simply a request and you may not get it. Here is a map of SSR and the building's room numbers.

Thanks for the detailed map. I will look it over with my DH before we make our request. Where can refillable mugs be refilled? Is there more than 1 place?

There is a self-serve station at the Grandstand Pool and at the Artist's Pallete.

We just got back from 10 days @ SSR. We stayed in the Springs section and it was wonderful. We were directly across the street from the Carriage house and the High Rock Springs Pool (and spent quite a bit of time there).

The only disadvantage the Springs has is that it is the last bus stop in the resort. We had a car, and drove to all of the parks but the MK. I heard from other guests that it was not unusual for the buses to be full in the morning by the time they reached the Springs...I have no direct experience with this however.

I have requested Grandstand again for our Nov. trip. We stayed there last year too in Nov. We loved the area....close to the main bldg/pool and the bus stop situation was THE BEST.

I think we were in bldg 8300 last Nov. I remember the bus stop was right there and the themed pool. I might request a bldg. section this Nov. trip too. I just put Grandstand on there.
