SSR-Why so many resales?

This may be far fetched, but I have a hunch that there was a fair subset of people who looked at the extra free points (developers points?) that were given with a purchase at one point and thought they might buy in, use the "free" points and maybe the 1st year or 2 , and sell - basically having had a free vacation out of the deal. Seems like an awfully complicated way to get a vacation, but I recall more that a couple of messages on these Boards that basically gave that scenario (and an assumption that the resale price would be higher by now) with a "can we do this" message.

That is kind of why we bought at SSR. We also bought sight unseen and was not familiar with any of the resorts. We bought for the concept and worked out great for us, and with the incentives and lowest MF that helps too. But now I'm spoiled by BWV and wish I owned points. But I'm not going to sell my points and then go buy BWV, not that big of a deal. Now if I had a way to trade someone straight up........that might be an option :rotfl:

We will just take our chances at 7 month mark and I'm still of the belief you can't go wrong with any of them. I would like to create the "Culli" utlitmate DVC:

1. Location of BWV
2. Size of OKW
3. Spa of SSR
4. Decor of SSR
5. Monorail
6. Pool like SSR
7. Waterpark like BCV
8. Boat ride to MK like wilderness
9. Point breakdown like OKW

Hmmmmmmm how popular would that be!!!!?????????? Whenever I stay at a resort or have a ressie I keep thinking hmmmmm I wish our rooms and pts were like OKW or the kids need the zero entry at SSR, oh well I guess we all just have to settle:rotfl:   :rotfl:

We bought at SSr in 2004 as well....we love it there. Yes it is a little sprawling but I like the convenience of DTD and really central location to Typhoon Lagoon, and Hollywood Studios and quite frankly everything else is at most a 10 to 15 minute drive on the highway. I have booked at other resorts at the 7 month window with no issues....never not got the reservation I have requested. If people are selling SSR on mass ....I am interested in adding on. The thing about AKL is definately the the developer points and the 8$ per point incentive....very attractive. Aside from that I think SSR is a beautiful resort, great amentities, great casual dining at the Artists Palette. The only other resort that has captured my attention as much is Widerness Lodge....in love with that place. Disney offers so many options that we are all able to have our cake and eat it to.....that's the great part!:thumbsup2

DSSR has more members than any other DVC resort, that it should have a fair number of resales shouldn't be that big a surprise. 800 units at DSSR to 140 at VWL and 170 at BCV I think are roughly the unit numbers at those resorts. To all those getting overly agitated about the bus service at a particular resort, I wouldn't be too quick to make a major financial decision based just on that aspect. Disney has been getting a LOAD of complaints about the bus services at ALL of the hotels in the last few months. The "official" response has been that the new computerized system to improve the efficiency of the flow of the busses has taken a little while to settle in. Human nature means we always remember/think about the bad experience but seldom treat good experiences with the same degree of examination. The bus system is a prime example, how many people write in to say "we had a great trip never waited more than 4 minutes for a bus" VERY FEW because 1) people don't get as motivated when they have a good experience as they do when they have a bad one. 2) people often don't even think about the experience when it's quick and efficient. walked to bus stop, waited 2 minutes, bus came, got back to room, it's just not memorable.
How many people write in " we were staying at OKW and 3 busses came for OKW before one came for the Poly " NONE BECAUSE THEY WERE ON THE FIRST BUS!!.

Personally I think Disney has cut back on the bus system across property, probably due to the high cost of gas, they are using the "computer glitch" as an excuse and seeing how much they can reduce the frequency by before the cash paying customers start making a noise. It's not just one or two resorts, if you read through the resort boards you'll see comments about poor bus service from almost every single resort on property.

Yep, the bus service at times is not great from the other DVC's I have stayed at. Got the multiple Epcot buses in a row at VWL in early May. Luckily it was on our Epcot day, the others at the stop were :headache: .

I've done 2 Thanksgivings at SSR, and 2006 was definately better than 2007, but our longest wait was probably 30 min.

I think it has to do with the new "system" they are installing, it's great if you want to go to Epcot because from what I have noticed, you'll see a few buses for there before MK, AK or DHS.

we also purchased SSR before it opened....no regrets. we stayed there our first trip and loved it...have since stayed at BCV, and BWV(2)...going to SSR in 2-weeks for a short notice 20 anniversary trip. no problems as transportation is not shared with other resorts so the buses run pretty well. I am happy anywhere tho I will admit that BWV and BCV have the perfect location IMHO..still I'm at disney:cool1:

BTW we have never had a problem booking 7-months at other resorts (maybe just lucky I don't know)
