can anyone tell me how to access the walkway to downtown disney from ssr? thanks

The walkway to the Marketplace section of Downtown Disney is directly behind the Congress Park buildings (the only buildings currently open), right along the water.

It's probably about 10 minutes from SSR to DD using that walkway.

Can you tell me which stores you're closest to when you emerge from the walkway? I'm trying to decided how long it might take to get to Disney Quest.

The promenade will get you to the Rainforest Cafe end of DD. If you're going to Cirque or DQ, take the path that uses the golf cart bridge to cross the canal (walk past the boat dock and turn left after crossing the bridge).

That path takes you around the DD/West Side parking lot and comes out at Cirque/HoB/DQ. It's about a 15 minute walk from the Congress Park buildings.

So are there two pathways from SSR-one to the marketplace and one to the West Side? DS wants to go to Virgin Megastore (I think that's what it's called) and I want to go to the marketplace. So do we each go on a separate path? Where do we start?

Yes, there are 2 pathways to DD.

The pathway behind the Congress Park buildings leads to the Marketplace side of DD. It is the walkway along the waterfront directly across from DD. It enters the Marketplace right at the Marketplace bus stop. If memory serves, the first stores are the scrapbooking and Christmas stores.

If you want to walk to the West Side of DD (Virgin Megastore, Cirque, etc), you can take the pathway that begins behind the Carriage House (check-in). Keep in mind however, that it is a very long walk, especially if you're leaving directly from your room. We made this walk during the day, but I understand this walkway can be pretty dark at night.
