I am relatively new to this forum and love all of the questions and interaction. I know you cannot go wrong in any of the resorts. I have 4 boys (11,9,8,3) and currently have a resevation for SSR during Holloween week. For some reason in my head, I feel the need to change it to VWL as soon as the 7 month window is open. Am I correct that the VWL seems to have more kid friendly stuff to do, especially around Holloween? Maybe i should do a split stay? For those of you who have stayed at both - any recommendations? thanks, jim

Never did ssr but my boys (15,15 & 13) love VWL. It's really well themed, as in you walk in the door and your jaw hits the floor. They loved that. Pool is really nice and when we were there in August, CM's organized games for the kids in the pool. There is also an arcade, bikes and water craft you can rent.

I've stayed at both and while VWL is my fav, I would still say split your stay. This way the kids can see what its like to stay in walking distance to DTD and then a boatride away from MK. If you do the Halloween party, schedule on one of the nights you are at the Villas and then take the boat back for convenience. Then after they experience both you can decide which one you like better as everyone has different tastes.

The Wilderness Lodge is more compact (although huge) and it might be easier to give your boys some freedom at that resort. SSR is awesome!, but very spread out. They would have to walk through roads and parking lots to get to the main pool depending upon where you are. I would feel better having my kids run around WL. IMHO

Do you know that there's been Trick or Treating at DTD both on Halloween and the night before in past years? We're staying at VWL for Halloween week, our DGC are too young to stay up for MNSSHP, but we were going to take them to DTD one night and the BW area on the other.

Have your boys been to DTD? I think being a short walk away from DTD would be a HUGE plus with boys the age of your sons. They have the Lego Store, a pin trading spot, Rainforest Cafe, DisneyQuest (a MUST-DO with that age boys).

VWL is goregous, but a bit quiet in the evenings if your sons are as restless as my DS10 is - he always wants to be "going and doing". DTD is a great outlet for him (and us).

I'd vote for a split stay to get the best of both worlds. My kids (5,8,11,14) love DTD at night to have something to do on non-park nights. SSR also has a community hall that the kids like and sometimes pool games. VWL is gorgeous and woodsy. You really can't go wrong with you choice.

Both will be fine - the weather should be good at that time, so the fact that VWL has more indoors than SSR shouldn't matter.

We went for MNSSHP and stayed at VWL just because it was only a boar ride from MK, so it made getting to and from the party very nice.

Note though that it seems getting to DTD from WL is always a challenge - this December, it took us over an hour (45 min once on the bus!) to get there, but only 15 min. getting back!

MY vote is for WL.....I love it...

I'm going to ssr in may....hoping for a split stay at
the beach club...waitlist...

Be careful....I love DTD....but lets face it....
The only thing to do is SPEND MONEY;)

I'd say VWL. It is great and has that boat transfer directly to MK. Also driving the boats around the lagoon is loads of fun. Besides you can snoop the Contemporary from the water, take pictures and report back.

It is all about location and theme for us and we love both with VWL.

Thanks for all of the advice....Sounds a split stay would be greatsince we have not been to either....I think I will start at VWL (3 nights) then do a rest day in the middle of the week as we switch to SSR. Feels like SSR is likely a better place to lounge around at the pool after a game of hoops. thanks again.
