My family and I are planning a trip to WDW in November. There will be 8or 9 of us (3 generations). One family member is military. Wondering if it is better for the 8/9 of us to stay at Shades of Green or Saratoga Springs (2 Bdrm Villa). Has anyone stayed at both? Which is better for large family staying 9 days/8 nights?
Thanks

We have not stayed at SSR, but we have stayed in VWL 2br and Shades of Green many times. It comes down to personal preference. How many rooms would you get at SOG? I love SOG and I love any of the Disney resorts. SOG is going to give you little better sleeping arrangements since all the rooms sleep 5 fairly comfortably with 2 beds and a day bed. The 2br villa is going to give you 1 king, a sleeper sofa in the living room and probably 2 queens in the 2nd bedroom(some have 1 bed and 1 sleeper sofa). The sleeper sofas are OK, but not as comfortable as a regular bed (my personal opinion)

With 2 rooms at SOG or a 2br, both will give you 2 bathrooms. There are some connecting rooms at SOG, you can always request it. We have been fairly lucky in having that request honored most of the time, but not all the time.

Transportation from SOG to parks and DTD is convenient. I would compare it to Disneys transportation for convenience. Food is cheaper at SOG and very good. Something else to keep in mind is that there is no tax on anything since it is a military installation.

It is great you are going with extended family. We have done similar trips many times and have cherised those memories. No matter what you choose, it will be a wonderful trip! Enjoy!

It really depends upon the dynamics of your family. At SSR you'd have 2 bathrooms, a King bed, a queen sleeper sofa, and depending if it is a dedicated or lock-off, 2 queen beds or a queen and full sleeper sofa.

You'd also have a full kitchen, so you could have some meals in the villa.

If you aren't the type of family to cook on vacation, or don't plan on spending a lot of time in the room. you might go with shades of green...I don't know what their rooms are like as far as bed sizes, etc. But I would assume you'd need at least two regular, if not 3 regular, hotel roomss, again depending upon your families needs.

Both resorts would probably be good choices.

But if you have nine in your group, one will need to be under the age of three. Otherwise, you won't fit in a two bedroom villa at SSR. They only sleep 8 plus one under the age of three.

I think another consideration would be whether you are a DVC owner or not.

If it were a choice of renting a DVC ressie vs. SOG, I'd choose SOG every time because of the difficulties with canceling or rescheduling with DVC if someone's plans change.

The rules are the same whether you own or not, but I'm assuming if you're an owner, you know how things work...and it would be your account that's affected.

Thank you very much - to everyone who replied!!!

I think it sounds like SOG is the best choice for my family.

Thanks again:love:
