SSR vs OKW - what's your opinion?

ok....so now that i've decided it's going to be the free dining discounted OKW/SSR offer, i now have to choose which it's to be: OKW or SSR..

we've stayed at OKW (about 6 years ago) and liked it, but we've never stayed at SSR.

i think we'll either take 3 studios, or 1 studio and one 2 bedroom.

it will be 3 couples (DH and me, DS and his wife, DD and her husband)..
basically, the two young couples are taking us on their honeymoon with them. (clever way of getting us to pay?)

anyway...

i thought of getting a 2 bedroom so that we would have a washer/dryer (since with the studios, you have to use the hotel laundry room - i think).

i checked the prices and getting 3 studios or 1 studio/1 two bedroom works out to be about the same in price.


ok...so....to the question at hand.

Which would you pick? Why?

We absolutely loved SSR. We were going to book OKW for next year but the lack of a proper CS restaurant put us off, plus the fact that it's further away from DTD. Having said that, I do like the theming at OKW and the rooms are bigger than those at SSR. It depends on what's important to you I guess.

We love OKW.The rooms are bigger than most other DVC resorts and the views over the golf course are great. It has a very relaxed feel to it and a great pool slide

anyone have pictures of SSR? i've seen Wayne's OKW studio pictures, so i kind o know how that looks..

do the studios at SSR have one bed and one sofa? or two beds?
do all the studios at OKW have two beds or do some of them have one bed/one sofa?

The main pool is really nice, as are the quiet pools. Yes, the main pool has a slide.

At SSR it's one bed and one sofa in a studio. I think all the studios at OKW have two beds.

at SSR, where is the entrance to the room? from an inside hallway or from the outside (like at OKW)?
looking at the pictures in that link, it seems that maybe you get to rooms from an inside hallway, but i'm not sure.

also, are there elevators at SSR?

do any of the OKW buildings have elevators?

Same as OKW.

Not seen any elevators at OKW but not looked.

Next Aug will be our 3rd stay at OKW. Main reason is having the 2 beds in a studio, been to SSR for a meal at Turf club, didn't like the surroundings anywhere near as much as OKW.
If you prefer a better CS and easier to walk to DTD then SSR is the better resort, neither a consideration for us.
Don't think you can go far wrong with either.

I think 3 studios would work well then you would all have your space esp with honeymooners.

We stayed in an okw studio and the lack of washer was a non issue. We requested and were put by turtle pool. There was a laundry there (free) so just a min from the room. Never busy as most units have their own - just the studio guests to use it.

Renovations at OKW should be done early 2011 I think. We stayed in a renovated studio in october and it was lovely - everything very clean and new.

yes they're free, but not as convenient. you have to hang around and watch them. Much easier when you have a laundry room in the 2 bed...
i don't think it will be a problem with one of the couples with us...DD isn't married yet, but she and her fiance both live with us....so we're used to being together...
i don't think they'd mind sharing a 2 bedroom with us....we're all very easy going....if they had a 3 bedroom that was part of the free dining, i would take that....we're a very together sort of family....we like to be together all the time....we're weird that way....

that's great to know...

to me the only issue at this point is being able to get a sofa with one bed in SSR....it's nicer for a couple that way..

I agree that a bed + sofa set-up is more desirable for a couple.

One way of looking at it could be that you've stayed at OKW before so maybe it's time to give SSR a try?

I don't have any advice regarding the resorts but I would pick a studio and 2 bedroom.

I would do this because you will have an in room laundry and also the couple in the studio can come and spend time in the living room so you can be all together.

If you request a lock off - the second bedroom will be a studio so you can have 2 entrances too.

oh that's a good idea - the lock off...i wonder if they have those at OKW too...

We had originally booked a 1BR at SSR for our October trip but there was a mixup with the booking and we ended up in a 2BR at OKW (long story). Anyway it was a newly refurbished room and it was absolutely beautiful. Here are some pics for you.

Yes our studio was the same as the second bedroom and ensuite above. That was lots of space for 3 of us. The 2 bed looks very spacious.

Me, DH, DS(7) and DS (4 months). It was huge. DS had his own room and bathroom and we had the master bed with the travel cot in it.
