We're staying at SSR for our first visit as members beginning on Nov 29 and leaving on Dec 6.

In order to conserve our developer spoints for next spring, I booked the Sat night on cash and the ending Friday night on cash. The cash bookings are for a studio and the rest of the week is for a 1 BR. I think I outsmarted myself. :(

I was thinking that a 1 BR was a lockoff to a studio and at check-in I could just request that the BR be opened on the second day and access be terminated on Fri afternoon and that I wouldn't have to change rooms and they wouldn't have to deal with mousekeeping.

I just read in another thread that only 2 BR's were lock-offs. Oops. Have I outsmarted myself and will have to change rooms... twice? :(

Thanks for any advice!

The quick reply is yes you will have to change rooms twice. You might want to rethink the use of your points.

When a one bedroom connects to a studio, that is a two bedroom lockoff.

There is no way they would just open the door between the one bedroom and the studio on your second day and let you move your stuff over to the one bedroom side. It might work out that way, but you can't get access to one until you check out of the other. And the door will remain locked. Now if you had a two bedroom, you might be able to stay in the studio and then they open the door for your two bedroom lockoff.

Yes, the way your reservation is now, you will have to move twice. You'll be homeless on Sunday and on Friday.

Thanks Bill. I was afraid of that. Oh well. There are worse problems one could have, I guess.

I still don't understand what the previous poster may have meant implying that there may have been a more appropriate solution to my situation via points. Do you know what they may have meant? I thought I did about the best I could by paying on Sat and Fri and using points Sun-Th. :confused3

Actually, I'm Deb. Just married to Bill.

You probably did it best by paying cash for the Fri and Sat nights when points are higher than using points. Otherwise, you might have gotten a studio for the entire time. But I wouldn't. I'm just not that comfortable in a studio. Too much like a hotel room.

It would be difficult change your reservation this late. So stick with what you have. You might want to try to get a one bedroom for one of your cash nights instead of the studio. You would probably get to stay and MS would like those reservation since they are the same category of room. But it would cost your more out of pocket.

Any way you look at it, you'll be at a great resort and having a wonderful time. Just a little homeless for a while.

Thanks Deb. Apologies for assuming you were Bill. Had a 50-50 shot. :)

Yea. For our first trip "home" with DVC and having never stayed anywhere but at a moderate on-site, my DW and I decided we wanted to impress ourselves with this trip. That's why we chose a 1 BR.

We were just trying to conserve a few points to do a quick "pop-down" in the spring to a studio as cheaply as possible.

Not changing rooms would have been ideal but a 1 BR for cash just blew the budget out and kinda defeated the purpose of why we did DVC to begin with. We're driving down and will arrive late afternoon on Saturday and will be leaving early Sat morning so we just figured we'd just live "out of our suitcases" for those two anyway.

I guess my grave error was trusting my memory of the tour instead of asking here first. I think I'm clearer now why the second BR lockoff to the studio would have provided what we wanted but that certainly wouldn't have been practical for a small family of 3, one of which is a 3 YO DD. I should have asked here first.

Oh well. We live and learn, don't we? I just hope we can get in an area with a view of DTD. We are so excited about this trip. It will be a new experience for us after going twice a year and always staying in moderates for 10 years. We can't wait.

Thanks for all of your help. :goodvibes

Hi Bob! We will also be in WDW 11/30-12/4. Maybe our paths will cross.

I think you made a good choice, saving money.

Moving rooms shouldn't be too hard - they should keep your stuff so you can go and enjoy the day. Also, they'll keep your fridge stuff cold for you. If you do grocery shopping first day, just keep the grocery bags to bag it all up for the bellmen. They've done that for us at the BWV when we had to move rooms (first one wan't nice, moved second day last trip).
