SSR studio fridge?

Do the SSR studio fridges have a freezer compartment still? Seems like a read awhile back that the new fridges somewhere did not have a freezer compartment.

In general, it seems that resorts with studio mini-fridges that used to have freezer sections, may get replaced by by ones without (as they break?).

It seems that if you dial down the temp, whatever you put on the bottom of the mini-fridge can freeze.

You cannot rely on getting an older fridge with a freezer compartment. I do not believe they have wholesale replaced them, but then they conk out, they get swapped the new ones without the compartment.

Stayed at SSR last weekend for princess before my cruise I can comfirm the mini fridge does not have a freezer. I bought a Mickey ice cream bar and the nestle ice cream cookie sandwich for my wife and myself to have after the half and they melted even on the coldest setting with them on the bottom

No freezers anywhere that we've stayed in the last couple of years. Bummer too. We used to freeze water bottles & blue ice to use in our collapsible cooler PLUS we always get some frozen foods delivered (waffles). The waffles will keep OK in the fridge but they're limp & curl up when I put them in the toaster. I find I can sometimes get bottles to freeze in the door if I turn it cold enough - but then sometimes things freeze that I don't want frozen (ie margarine & cream cheese). I hate that they're removing the freezers.

Thanks, my daughter just wanted it to keep ice packs frozen for their drinks during the day. Aggravating that they removed them.

Turn down the thermostat and place the items up against the coolant grid in the back of the refrigerator. They should freeze. I bring food for religious dietary dietary reasons, and miss the freezer compartment. When I contacted guest relations about this, I was told DVC members requested removal of the freezer to make more room!
In any event, I have not had a problem with turning down the thermostat and placing the items against the grid. In fact, the problem I have had is everything in the unit freezing--including liquids stored on the door.

I wish they wouldn't keep "blaming" us for that decision. It makes me so mad! I've heard so many complaints about the removal of the freezer, but hardly any (maybe one only) who preferred it.

Those who want them just need to write and "request" to have them again.

It almost seems like they think that people are going to tell them that they do want something that is already provided so then if all they hear is those who say they want something different then they act on that. If that's even the reason they do these things which is questionable. Apparently everyone who has used the freezers over the years should have been writing in that they still wanted them.

I'd rather DVC just be honest and say "hey we got the ones without the freezer because they were cheaper!" Stop saying members complained about that little bitty freezer taking up too much space so we got rid of it to make your life easier! Funny that as a long term DVC owner I've never been called or asked or surveyed about any of these issues that they supposedly report that they received through member feedback.

Honestly I've never seen a dorm size or apartment size fridge w/o a freezer section, so who knew we needed to tell them it was important to us. Maybe we should start mentioning we need the hangers in the closet before they disappear, or that we use the TV to check the weather before those go away!

Yep! That about what it seems like to me sometimes.

Is the refrigerator actually larger than the old refrigerator section? If I recall, it just seemed like they went with smaller, cheaper units (probably the same ones used by the resorts)

We also miss the clock radio so now we bring one with as we like listening to local radio in the morning. At home we listen to Orlando radio on iHeart radio but their ads are national. Will try turning down the temp in the fridge.

We have one at home that we use for extra beverages. No freezer section at all.

The first time I encountered the freezerless unit was when I stayed at VGF shortly after opening. I asked concierge about it, and was told that the middle shelf was the freezer section! Of course, that made no sense at all. So I pulled out the unit, noted the manufacturer and model number, and looked it up. The manufacturer's website did not mention that the unit had a freezer section, obviously.
I can't see how units without a freezer section wouldn't cost less. Also, they might consume less electricity, which for the number of units Disney has running, might be a substantial savings also.

In all fairness, my experience of mini-fridges is that "cheap" or "expensive" doesn't signify much in terms of longevity or function. Especially when they are beaten up on like the fridges in Disney rooms and villas.

And it doesn't help that they are empty most of the time. Refrigerators run less if there is a thermal mass inside, to help maintain temps.

You mean air doesn't hold the cold as well as a big tub of ice cream? Guess I'll just have to check that out! ;-)
