When I contacted guest relations about this, I was told DVC members requested removal of the freezer to make more room!
Those who want them just need to write and "request" to have them again.
It almost seems like they think that people are going to tell them that they do want something that is already provided so then if all they hear is those who say they want something different then they act on that. If that's even the reason they do these things which is questionable. Apparently everyone who has used the freezers over the years should have been writing in that they still wanted them.
Honestly I've never seen a dorm size or apartment size fridge w/o a freezer section, so who knew we needed to tell them it was important to us. Maybe we should start mentioning we need the hangers in the closet before they disappear, or that we use the TV to check the weather before those go away!

The first time I encountered the freezerless unit was when I stayed at VGF shortly after opening. I asked concierge about it, and was told that the middle shelf was the freezer section! Of course, that made no sense at all. So I pulled out the unit, noted the manufacturer and model number, and looked it up. The manufacturer's website did not mention that the unit had a freezer section, obviously.I'd rather DVC just be honest and say "hey we got the ones without the freezer because they were cheaper!"
And it doesn't help that they are empty most of the time. Refrigerators run less if there is a thermal mass inside, to help maintain temps. In all fairness, my experience of mini-fridges is that "cheap" or "expensive" doesn't signify much in terms of longevity or function. Especially when they are beaten up on like the fridges in Disney rooms and villas.
You mean air doesn't hold the cold as well as a big tub of ice cream? Guess I'll just have to check that out! ;-)And it doesn't help that they are empty most of the time. Refrigerators run less if there is a thermal mass inside, to help maintain temps.
