Looking for opinions and ideas….
I decided to take a last minute (for us) trip to WDW. DS10 and I will be checking in Sun Aug 10 and checking out Fri Aug 15. We booked a studio at SSR, the only resort available with short notice. We are going to try to keep our expenses down, so we’ll be eating breakfast in the room and possible a snack or other light meal. Can we do this in a studio? And with somewhat healthy options? I know we will be restricted with only having the sink, small fridge, and microwave. I had original booked a 1BR, then switched after further thought. DS will sleep with me regardless if we have 1 bed or 5 beds…..that’s just what he does. Every time DH is out of town on business he migrates to my bed. And we typically don’t spend too much downtime in the room when it’s just him & I….so I was feeling guilty even thinking about a 1BR.

For breakfast I’m thinking maybe a bagel, pop tarts or donuts for DS (not exactly my idea of healthy, but its vacation right), fruit, milk, and yogurt. I might even make some breakfast burritos before we leave home, freeze them, and transport them to WDW….they stay frozen for a REALLLY long time. We’ll eat lunch in the parks; this will be our big meal of the day. Then that leaves me with snack/light meal options. We’ll be flying in, and taking ME…..so no rental car. We can however set up a grocery delivery through wegoshop, as in the past. Or we can bring a few things from home, or pick things up in the store at the resort.

Give me ideas, so we can make this work. I’d like to keep them somewhat healthy and simple/easy to prepare.

You could do cold meats and fish such as shrimp or salmon and salad with freash bread or jacket potato for a healthy meal.

If you can manage to pack a small George Forman grill you will be able to "grill" some meat. My DH and I do this every trip. We get a salad - may from Artist's Pallete or WPE. My DD and I did this last August. It worked out really well. I can't do fast food anymore so it works out better this way. You can also grill some chicken breasts ahead of time and heat up (carefully) in the microwave.
Enjoy.

I was going to suggest getting a rotisserie chicken from WGS or GardenGrocer. I also like the Stouffer's Skillet frozen dinners, and they microwave very nicely. I like the newer collapsable Rubbermaid containers for these. They have several chicken and beef varieties. You could see if you like them before you go.

snack ideas that work for us:-go-gurts (freeze these - my kids think they are "popsicles"!)
-cranberries, rasins, yogurt rasins
-trail mix (i make one myself for my kids specifically: cherrios, chex, rasins, cranberries, pretzels, and once in a while i throw in a few m & m's)
-cheese and crackers
-string cheese
-apple slices and peanut butter
-carrott sticks
-rice cakes
-multigrain chips with cheese melted on in micro
*some of these are more easily enjoyed in your room :thumbsup2

meal ideas:
-i second the pp's idea about a rotiseree (sp?) chicken
-you could steam any fresh or frozen veggie in the micro
-they also have MANY varieties of those microwave-ready rice pouches
-tuna sandwiches (buy the "no draining needed pouch)
-frozen waffles
-cereal or oatmeal
-peanut butter sandwiches
-pick up some lo-fat muffins/scones and fresh fruit

enjoy!

You could pack cereal and oatmeal and buy milk at the store.
Also, you could bring microwave popcorn and raisins.
If you want to order food ahead, order baby carrots, too.
We always pack breakfast and snacks, and it is nice to have the fridge and microwave!
