Background: I am taking my niece (34), nephew-in-law (34), and two great nephews (6 & 18 mo.) to WDW the end of January thru early February for 8 nights and we are staying Standard View at SSR.

I am trying to decide whether to request Grandstand:
Pros
1. first on and first off buses - we will have a rental, but plan to use buses most of the time
2. near to Hospitality House
3. quiet pool nearby

Cons
1. quite far to walk to DS
2. pool is not very exciting

or Paddocks:
Pros
1. closer (walking distance) to DS
2. fun pool and quick service food option
Con:
1. only con is - are buses apt to be full?

I have stayed at both locations in the past (and enjoyed each for different reasons) and am trying to decide what would be better. Obviously if I had a crystal ball and could know the weather and if we will have much opportunity to use pools, it would be a slam dunk decision for the Paddocks, but if the pools are out of the question, then I would prefer to be on the first on and first off the buses.

Can you help me decide?

We ALWAYS stay at the Paddock and I’ve never had a problem with a single bus. I would totally choose there over grand stand.

Thanks for the help. I have only stayed at the Paddock once and we only used the bus once. I did like the video screens telling us when the bus would arrive.

The Grand Stands isn't that far to the boat going to Disney Springs. The Paddock pool gets really crowded. All of the bus stops have TV screens with estimated bus times.

I've seen a bus fill up at Paddock but not before arriving.

One downside of grandstand if you have your own car: turning left from Fairway onto Broadway to leave SSR can be difficult b/c you are so close to the exit that traffic can back up there.

That is a good point.

We always stay in the Paddock area as well and have never had issues with the busses. Good choice!

Love GrandStand; take the boat to DS if the walk is a concern. I’m sure the greats will love it.

My next Standard request is for Paddock. After staying at Grandstand during the summer, I did not appreciate it as much as others here do.

I've been contemplating at stay @ SSR with a Grandstand request. May I ask what you didn't like about it?

We did not hate it, but the pool was bland, our view was blocked by trees and we found it harder to park there then at Congress Park where we usually stayed. It was our first stay outside of CP, but we did not get preferred view. So, next time we will try for Paddock, Congress Park, preferred, was unavailable when we booked the stay. I really like the deeper Congress Park pool, and if I get a view of DP, i am thrilled.

So if you booked preferred, do you get to choose then which area you want when you book?

divisions at SSR are not about the view, but about proximity to the main building and to Disney Springs.

You can request the preferred area you want but it's only a request. Could end up being either Springs or CP.

So probably part of the divergent views, after reading Bobbi’s post, is whether you have a car. Living in the Washington, DC, area we never use a car. We use DME to and from the airport and Disney transport on site. We dont care about parking but more about walkability, bus stops, and boat access. Additionally, we’re not huge into views. As long as the chairs on the patio/deck are clean, I’m good.

Sounds like Grandstand or Paddock would work for you.
