I haven't had the opportunity to stay at SSR yet. Could you tell me what would be the best location to be near the main pool, bus and food. The food isn't as important as the pool and bus. We have 3 water rats ( boys 5,5, & 7) who love to relax by a cool pool (they are used to SAB). We can't wait to try SSR looks lovely every time we pass it. The boys have been asking to stay here for awhile but it was never available when we were going. Thanks

Well, there's a bit of a dilemma in your question. The Springs is the section that's closest to the main pool. It has a bus stop, but it is the last one on the loop. Many people complain that the buses are always full or standing room only at this stop.

Congress Park and the Paddocks each have their own quiet pool. These are similar to the quiet pool you'd be used to at BCV.

The Grandstand has its own pool too, which has slightly more features. It has a water play area for kids, and a bar (with refillable mug station).

SSR is a big resort, but with the exception of the Carousel section, the walk to the main pool really isn't that far.

Hey Dave~ Thanks for pointing that out. Would Grandstand be a good area for the bus??? How far is the main lobby area from here??? The kids are also asking where the boat to DTD is?? Thanks lots!!

Grandstand is the first bus stop. Although you wait through the other stops, at least you are probably sitting down. Going back at night, you're the first ones dropped off. I've requested grandstand. I can take a little walk to the main buildings.

Hello everyone. We are staying at SSR in a one bedroom for the first time in May. Can someone tell me the matress size of the pullout sleeper? Is it queen or full? Also, is it one single mattress or (3) seperate cushions? I recall seeing a photo of a pullout sleeper somewhere on here and the mattress was funky looking. Thanks for your help:)

I think it is a queen size. It is a one piece mattress. DD says it is very comfortable.

We stayed in Grandstand for the first time in December and really liked it. Not too bad a walk to the main pool and the restaurant. And we really liked being first on the bus stop because I have issues with balance when standing on the bus.

Thank you for the fast reply PatsMom...we requested the Grandstand section when we made ressies in November...keeping my fingers crossed that our request is granted...DD loves the look of the Grandstand Pool:woohoo:

The boat to DTD is right behind the main building. We just walked through the store and the boat launch is right there.

The boat launch is at the back of the Carriage House. If you're coming from the Grandstand, you go to the right where you see the golf cart path, just before you get to the main portico where the Disney Magical Express bus stop is.

When coming from the other sections, you walk around the left side of the building, like you're heading to the DVC Preview Center. It's across from the clubhouse entrance for the golf course.

When the Treehouse Villas section opens, there'll be a second boat dock there.

I think Grandstand is an awesome location. That's where we stayed, and we loved it. It's a short walk to the main pool/food. First bus stop, so we always had a seat. And it also has it's own pool with sprinklers. We could even see Illuminations from our balcony.

We're here at Congress Park right now and it gets my vote!! We have a 2 bedroom - room 1827 and I am certain it is one of the best views at the resort - our balcony on the 4th floor looks over the pool and the river and Pleasure Island West Side. The evening colours are spectacular.

We went to grandstand pool last night - not a big fan for some reason. I don't like the red - sorry...I know that sounds wierd but it looks older and more tired to me. Now we don;t have a bar by the pool but we take our own down.

High Rock is closed all month so while it would have been nice to try - we really aren't missing it all that much!

Getting to the main building is easy - hop on any park bus and it stops at the main building as it leaves. To come back, DTD buses stop at all resort stops before leaving. Bell services gave us a lift to grandstand last night. The walk is totally manageable but not for those who have trouble walking or toddlers - it's a small hike.

Beds look to be queen - seem bigger than double. We have a dedicated 2 bedroom so 2 full queens in the 2nd bedroom.

Love it here!! It's our new favourite.

Do the quiet pools also have a hot tub? We'll be heading there in a few days and I know the main pool will be closed. Really looking forward to being able to hit the hot tub after a long day at the parks.

We just got back from a short trip there this past weekend.

I left things up to chance and we were put in the Paddock, but the first building right across form Congress Park. It wasn't too far of a walk to the main building/pool, plus we had our choice of using the Paddock bus stop or walking across the street to the Congress Park bus stop (we chose the CP bus stop). Same thing for use of the quiet pools, but we were really only there two days and chose to walk up and drive (our second day) up to the Springs area and parked across from the main pool.

However, the bus routes for DD do change at night. We decided our last night to go over to the Contemporary and Poly to look around, via the "unknown TTC' called DD bus stops. We drove up to the Springs area and waited at the Springs stop since my husband wanted to refill his mug. We got on at the Springs (with the bus coming up Broadway from CP), but then we went to Grandstand, Carousel, CP, and out the back gate to DD.

Oh and stupid me got two HUGE blisters on our first day. We walked over to DD (which wasn't far from our building either being across from CP) and I brought shoes that I had worn EVERY DAY when I worked retail (on my feet all the time). I passe dup cute, fashionable shoes for the practical "Wore these on my feet everyday shoes" and by the time we got to DTD, the puffiness was forming (we took the boat back to the resort). I found moelskin int he hotel gift shop, but alas no scissors and I had to do my cutting of the moleskin as the cashier, when I asked for scissors. I didn't know you were supposed to cut a hole out for the blister, so stupid me puts a strip of moleskin over the blister, and later after we went swimming, the moleskin came loose, and peeled away the blister puffy skin. My husband was like "Oh darn, you won;t be able to go to AK tomorrow." But sure as heck I did. I may have walked a little slower, but or daughter's stroller provided me with a reasonable excuse to walk slow (although I typically charge ppl down witht he stroller in the mall). Anyway, a week later and the blisters are healing nicely.

Aside from the size of the resort, I will likely stay here again though. I like it. Peaceful, quiet, and you don;t have to see another guest unless you really want to (aka pools/food court/bus stop).

I beleive so. I only looked at the quiet pool at the Paddock and it did.

When we arrived we were debating on whether or not to set up the Pack-n-Play for our daughter (20 months old). We were also in a studio. I looked at the bed, and got miffed because it didn't seem like a queen to me, but it didn't look like a double. I think the beds have Dinsey magic of their own and somehow become bigger when you get in them. The three of us fit fine, and my daughter is knowm for turning horizontal during the night and putting her feet into my back (been doing this since in utero). I seriusly need to get one of those beds/matresses, because I had the best sleep ever while down there.....or maybe I was just really tired from the stuff we did even though we took it "light."

I would definitely stay here again.

Before going to SSR for the first time, I researched the best sections and decided that Congress Park would be right for our family.
We flew from CA and arrived at 1:30 Friday and apparently many people had checked in on Thursday. Therefore, nothing that I wanted was available! After so much thought and deliberation, we could not get our 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice.

I had heard many people say that the Carousel was the furthest away(and least desirable for some) and wouldn't you know it-that's what we got!

So, my advice to you is to check in early so you can get you want. Apparently, it's a first come, first serve system. Next to us at the check in counter, there was another couple having a loud disagreement with a CM. Apparently, they didn't get what they wanted. My husband and I cracked up over how he kept saying, "Welcome home, my a**!" Good luck!

How far a walk is it from the Grandstand to the main pool ?? How far to the main bldgs??? Thanks Robin

The 2 Grandstand pool buildings are the same distance to the main bldgs and pool as Springs. (Springs you have to walk by the pool to get to the main buildings, Grandstand you walk in past the lobby, closer to AP) There are two farther Grandstand buildings (other side of the Grandstand parking lot), so the walk is a little farther, but I think the more private golf course views are better.

We were in the Grandstand building right next to the bus stop twice. It was great. It's about a five minute walk to the Carriage House and Main Pool. It's absolutgely corfrect that you never have to stand on an outbound bus because it's the first stop.
When I left last week, the pool was still under renovation but I didn't see a lot of people working on it.
