What part of SSR would be best for a family with small children that love the pool and playground?

We will have a car, so bus stops are not an issue...

We like the idea of a Downtown Disney view....

We are going in July of 2009....

I am booking next week and would love your ideas on the best location for my family's needs and likes...Please feel free to explain your vote.

Thank you.

We just got back from a 7 night stay. We were in front building of the springs. Room 4434. We could see the pool from our room. I would have loved a DD view like you would get from congress park, but I would not have wanted to walk or ride the bus to the pool. I would also have not wanted to use the smaller pools. My kids loved the slides. My 2 year old used the small slide for what seemed like an hour straight. It was a short walk across the bridge from our building to the paddock which had a small pool and playground. July was brutally hot at times and the shorter walk to things the better. The spings worked out great for us but we really didn't know what we were missing in congress park either.

Enjoy!!

Although the view of DTD would be nice, I think the convenience of being near the pool outweighs the view when you have young kids. From the Springs, the walk to the playground in the Paddock is short and the pool is so close. We didn't even go to the playground when we were there last July because it was soooo hot, all they wanted to do was go in the pool. (After the park hopping of course)

The largest pool is High Rock Springs pool at the main building. Closest building is the Springs (right across the street). The Grandstand area (my vote) has it's own pool with pool bar, a great water sprayer, and BBQ pavilion. It's also a short walk on a nice path to the main building where you find food, gifts, spa, community hall, the main pool, and boat dock to DTD.

I also picked the Springs due to its proximity to the High Rock Springs Pool and the dining locations, as well as Community Hall and the arcade.

I voted Congress Park since there is a pool and a playground right behind the buildings. Also has great views of DTD. It is a good walk from the boat dock though so that's something to keep in mind.

Okay....I am so confused...You have all provided such great information...But now I am really confused about which location would be better...I guess I have three to choose from now...Congress, Springs and Grandstand.

I think you need to decide which things are most important to your family:

1) View and convenience to DTD
2) Convenience to Carriage House (restaurants) and main pool, also spa, community hall, and arcade
3) Convenience to playground (I didn't actually see one in the Springs section, but I wasn't looking for it).

If you make that decision, it should help with your section request.

Nor sure what ages your kids are, but we have stayed at SSR with our 3 kids about 6 times. (Current ages are 5, 7, and 8...first SSR trip they were 1, 3, & 4) and we would ONLY consider staying in the Springs (and we have a car when there as well).

--Proximity to the main pool, AP, store, etc. SO worth it.
--Main pool has zero entry, so if your kids are really little, that is wonderful
--Congress Park has the view of DTD, but are the kids going to care about the view? And even though it is close to DTD, if your kids are that young, you aren't going to walk over there anyway, you will likely drive.

FWIW, we have stayed at most DVC resorts and our kids all prefer SSR over the others (with BCV being a close second, followed by AKV, BWV, OKW, and VWL). Though my guess is that once Kidani is up and running, complete with pool area, then AKV will be the kid fav.

We just gave points to our pastor who has three little ones (6, 4, 2). We requested the Grandstand or the Springs. They will have a car, too. Grandstand is virtually brand new so we thought there might be less possibility of room issues there. Plus there is pool with kids' splash area.
The walk is not far to the main area.
We obviously thought the Springs because of the close proximity to everything (except DTD walkway), but you are closer to the boat dock.

Hopefully they will be in one of the two requests.

Good luck with your decision.

I am so glad you all took the time to help me...

I think I am going to "request" the Springs as our first choice and Grandstand as our second and Congress as our third...I will be booking at 11 months out (this Tuesday)...

We are going for 11 nights and really hoping for a great location because we will be there for so long....My kids will be 6 and 4....They love to splash in the pool...Being close to the main pool is most important...Location near dining is also important to us, especially the counter-service....So I really hope we can get the Springs now....It is so funny that it was not even a consideration at first...That goes to show how little I know of SSR and the resort map online was not much help to me....

I spoke with my DVC guide today...He suggested making the request at time of reservation and call again three days before we arrive to remind them of our request....He said that they actually start creating room assignments three to four days before arrival, so that is a good time to call...

I give my requests at 11 months and forget about it. When we checked in for Thanksgiving last year, the CM reeled them off CP, close to the CP quiet pool. I had actual forgot the pool part(something DH yelled to include when I was on the phone with MS).
