SSR reservation and I can't go...

Hello All,

I have a small, question, I have a reservation for SSR for July 4-7, and there has been a change in plans and I can't go.

I traded in so I can't get a refund on my points, dose anyone know if I can rent the room out or give it to a charity organization?

if you traded in through RCI, you cannot rent it out. if RCI finds out, they may cancel your membership and cancel the reservation.

if you were able to give it to a charity organization, the IRS would disallow any deduction based on the theoretical rental value of the week.

your best bet is to give the week to a friend or family member. you would need to pay for a "guest certificate" to put the reservation in their name...

I traded directly with Club Intrawest and they have told me I am able to give it to someone else, I just have to call them with the info, and pay there fee for this.

But wow I didn't know that some companies were so strict!

If, by "traded in," you mean you exchanged into DVC through RCI -- NO, you can't rent that reservation. That would be a violation of RCI policies, and if they find out about it (which they probably will), they will cancel the reservation.

Yes, you could give the reservation to a charity, but there would be no tax deduction benefit. Give Kids The World is a wonderful charity at WDW and they use donated reservations as "thank you's" for their volunteers. Because of the nature of GKTW's work, most of their volunteers are local people who could probably use the reservation on short notice.

If it's an RCI exchange, you can purchase a "Guest Certificate" for about a $60-90 fee and give them the name and info. of the person you are "gifting" it to. I've done this many times.
