SSR report -better late than never!

I'd like to start this out by saying this was our first trip home as dvc members and my children's first trip ever to WDW, so of course it was MAGICAL!!!!
It was me, dh, dd8 and ds5 we drove from Texas and that was a trip in itself! Got to SSR around 11:00 and room wasn't ready yet so we checked in but they were able to tell us we'd be in the first bldg. Was a little disappointed we did not get a Welcome Home from security or check in .
Went to AK- loved Dinosaur, Lion King show, dinner at rainforest cafe.
Back to room around 6:30, room ready 2736 studio on third floor with a canal view. Room was very nice, loved decor!

positives- kids loved both pools, had fun playing ping pong at community hall, loved being so close to DTD! Bus service was great- had bus to ourselves 75% of time. Resort is beautiful, imho.

negatives- selection at artist palette, door found ajar after mousekeeping cleaned and we were at parks, electricity went out(see thread about breaker boxes) and that was an ordeal!, boat dock was not near any of the buildings but close to golf area.

I would really like to be able to order food poolside rather than have to get dressed and go inside to AP.

We visited all 4 parks, Typhoon Lagoon, and DTD then went for a weekend in Vero Beach. All in all I loved my first stay at my home resort and can't wait to visit VWL (added on a few months ago) in December!
I'd also like to thank everyone on these boards, thanks to all your advice, planning tips and such our magical 2 weeks went without a hitch

Now if only someone could remind me how to add a countdown, I can't seem to remember and I'm ready to start counting down to our next trip home!

Glad you had a great trip!

Hold off on the countdown timer for a day or two. Right now the board has disabled them while they do some software maintenance.

That's a great observation about having to get dressed to eat at AP. I went solo, so I didnt notice, but I will keep that in mind.

The drive is an adventure isnt it! My Ds's were upset that we were not driving this trip but DH was not.

When will you be there in Dec.? We will be at VWL in Dec also!

Congratulations on the add-on at VWL! You pick up quick! LOL

Hey neighbor! We live in the SW Dallas area and, although we usually fly several times a year, we are thinking of a "road trip" in March of next year. How long did it take you guys to get there....any overnights? What route did you take?

Check out the Tech Support board. Although you might want to wait a few days--countdowns are current disabled while work is being performed on the boards.

Liferbabe- We have ressies at VWL Dec 26- Jan 2. I don't know if the lodge could handle our 3 boys all at once, but wouldn't that be fun?

Trampslady- We kinda did a commando drive, we left at 0230 in the morning and made it to Ocala around 8:00 Fl time. Spent the night in Ocala and drove to WDW the next morning, about another 1 1/2 hours. We went I-20 to I-49 to I-10 to I-75 but on the way home we cut up I-55 from I-10 and then hit 20 from there. If I had to do it over again I'd probably break it up more and maybe spend night in Pensacola area. We did not stop at a restaurant but had lunches packed in a cooler to save time. We stopped in Mobile there's a nice park right by the water where the USS Alabama is and that was a nice place to picnic and for the kids to run around.
We will be flying in Dec and March because they are shorter trips but I'll probably drive again after that. Ofcourse we couldn't have done it without the DVD , gameboys, and math games

Sounds like you took the same route as we take going.
We have driven straight thru 2 times. Which route was shorter or better?

I think you are right about our 3 boys at VWL. LOL

I am really looking forward to our December visit.
