DH and I just returned last night from SSR. As this was a last minute trip, I didn't plan (as I usually do for Xmas), we just went with the flow. :cool1:

We took everything really slow. DH played golf and I had a spa treatment; we went into the parks for maybe an hour at a time (no need to rush). In fact, DH and I went to AK just to eat at one of the counter service (Flaming Bar-be-Cue?? I hope I got the name correct). We had annual passes from our Xmas visit so we didn't feel that we had to get "our monies worth" in the parks.

In the past, we have usually stayed at OKW during Xmas because we find the room size is more efficient with extended family members joining us.
With that being said, I don't quite understand why SSR has been put down so much :confused3 . The resort's landscaping is beautiful; the bus system didn't present a problem (first time visiting without a car); had a beautiful view of DD from our balcony; and all the CMs we met were so nice.

On Memorial Day, DH and I grilled steaks in the quiet pool area and met LiferBabe and her family cooking viddles as well. We enjoyed their company and look forward to seeing them again in future visits. In fact our DHs shared stories of LiferBabe's and my addiction to these boards and DVC :rotfl2: However, as my DH met non-DVC members, I heard a few of his comments encouraging them to join. Hmmm... seems like my fanacticism of being members of DVC has rubbed off onto him. :cheer2:

Well, back to reality and to work on Monday :surfweb: DH was quick to point out that the 'reality' pays for the 'fantasy'

Bye all :wave2:

Thanks for the report - glad to hear you had a good time even though you didn't "COMMANDO" :teeth:

Best wishes -

Wow, what a nice time!! Did you plan to meet? or just coincidence? Do you have the lime green Mickey's from Home Depot?

Bobbi :)

Thanks for the wonderful report! It's always nice to hear that a last minute trip went so well!

We just got back from SSR as well. I agree with BZ8BLS on SSR having a bad rap. It was our first stay and I was worried as heck on how the stay would be because of what I had read on these boards. We did bypass the A/C to keep it cool in the room while we were in the parks. The fans in the bathrooms were no bother to us. Could barely hear them at night when my two DDs would hit the potty. We got to pick the room at check-in. Never had a problem with over-crowding on the buses. In fact, we had a bus to ourselves from AK to SSR. All the CMs were very nice especially the ones at Artist's Palette. They always asked if you were a DVC member to ensure you got the discount.

The only two things that come to mind that caught me off guard was the pool water being really nice the first time we went in it but the second two times it was cold. I couldn't figure this one out as it was HOT as heck and the pool ice cold. The second thing was the Concierge Desk. They had me go to DTD to get my annual passes with my DVC discount. Now if I'm staying in a DVC resort why can't they let you buy the annual passes from them with the discount?

I do have to recommend eating at Earl of Sandwich at DTD. We went the first night and loved it even though the line wrapped around three times to order. We loved it some much we went back two more times. Big props to the smoothies. They are the best.

I was there this weekend too! I was in CP ... where did you stay?

For the AP's, I don't think they can be picked up in any resort ... only at the Park Gate or DTD @ Guest Relations ... the DVC AP Discount is sweet though! ;)

We were in The Paddocks. By the second bus stop. Was nice real quick walk to the bus stop and only 5 minutes to the main pool which my two DDs loved.

You'd also think that if someone is buying an AP they would give you a nice plastic ticket like our room keys instead of the traditional paper ones that look like every other ticket.

Sounds like a great trip to SSR - that's our home resort, too - we enjoyed it when we were there in early May. Mmmm... steaks on the grill... mmmmm.

So how do you bypass the a/c?

And how much are the AP's with DVC discount now? We're looking at doing APs instead of seasonal.

I was at SSR from 5/28-6/2 also! I didn't get to meet any Diser there but I did get to see SenecaBeach the week before. She is a fantastic lady! Anyway, the airconditioner in our room in CP froze us to death! When we first went in the room I changed the thermostate from Automatic to Fan and it got so cold in the room I had to change it back to automatic pretty quickly.

The Artist Palette had all the snack options on the DP clearly marked and this was great. At the Screen Door at the BWV the week before, they would not let me get anything for a snack besides the stuff that they had before like a single serve drink, ice scream or whatever. They didn't know anything about the less than 4.00 rule I don't think.

The resort is really pretty and the furnishings are the nicest of all the Villas that I have stayed in. My DS slept on the fold out bed (three in a studio) and he actually preferred the fold out at BWV (the old style) to the one at SSR. Go figure. I am planning to buy some more points in the next year so that we can upgrade to a one bedroom for all my trips so we can have a little more room. Otherwise, I am going to have to stay at OKW for my studio visits.

As nice as SSR is, we still preferred BWV over SSR. We prefer the location next to the parks. Good thing because BWV is my home resort.

SSR is a nice resort but I think all the big aluminum looking buildings are what detract from the look of the resort. Like the "Disney music days" building. But the quiet pool at CP was fantastic. The frogs in the corners made me think of greenban here on the boards. I thought, I bet Greenban would love those frogs.....

I agree. This has always driven me nuts.

To the OP, thanks for the review! Glad you enjoyed your trip!

YES! I agree 1000%! These paper AP's are garbage! If they can put 1-3 day hoppers, etc on the room keys, why not the AP's? Ideally, it would be great if when you check in, you can show your AP and they add the service right to your room key with a little note saying *DVC Member* *PAP Holder* or whatever ... less stuff to carry, and you can take it in the pool with you. ;)

Not sure what you mean by bypassing the a/c?

I think the AP's with DVC Discount are an extra 25-35$ off ... basically, you get it for the same price as Florida Resident except it includes TAX. I think we paid $420 or something like that for them (tax included). Florida Resident is $425 plus TAX. Adult rates listed. ;)

Thanks for the SSR trip report! It's the one DVC we haven't tried yet....

The DVC AP discount is $100. off the regular price. We purchased our standard ones for about $315./adult in May. The premium AP's cost closer to the $400. range, but still that is $100. off the regular (non-FL) prices.

jdg345 were in CP 1BR

We were in b15, 2BR and Studio ... ;)

CP is my favorite area as it has the DTD view, the nice quiet pool, plus it's only a short hop to the exit gates on the 'back side' of SSR.

Hey!!!

Part of my group ( we were in OKW ) was in CP from the 29th to the 1st.....

Boy I just should have shouted out at the pool, "DISers...anyone???" Parts of my group were probably at the pool many times but all of us (well the last 3 came later that night) were at the CP pool on the Tuesday (30th). We are Black and White. Well I'm pink...

Were any of you there on that day? If you remember. That's wild!!!!

Hope you all had a great time. We had three rooms on the second floor of the building next to (DD path side) that pool. So sorry for anyone else on that floor!!

We were in both the main pool and that pool on Tuesday! It seems like a ton of us were there! I hope to be back at OKW next month, BWV in August, and then VWL in December ... ;)
