Is it possible to check into a 1 BR for 2 nites and switch to a dedicated 2 BR FOR 7 more mites without moving out of the 1BR?
Or, does it have to be a 2 BR lock off
to stay in the same 1 BR???
Our DD and DSIL and 2 DGS will join us for 7-9 more nites. They do not want the lock off. PICKY, PICKY, PICKY

I don't know how far away your trip is. But I was going from a 2br to a 1 br at OKW. And asked pretty much the same question. And it wasnt possible for me. Maybe this would be best served to ask member services. Or call the hotel directly.

This would only work if you booked a lock off. Even then, it would only be a request to keep the 1 bedroom portion of the room and just add the studio. You would also have to check out and check back in. If points allow, maybe you can just book the 2 bedroom dedicated for the duration. That way you won't deal with any possibility of having to move.

Dedicated means no connecting door to any other villa. So there is no configuration that would allow you to stay in the same 1 bedroom and have it turn into a dedicated 2 bedroom.

Perhaps you could tell the PICKY ones that it will cost you xx points (or $11 * # extra points) to get the dedicated over the 1 bedroom / lock off arrangement. Then see if they are willing to pay the difference between a 1 & 2 bedroom for the two nights they will not be there. Perhaps they are not as picky as you think, LOL.

do they know that with the lockoff they can have their mini kitchen without coming into the LR for coffee in the morning

Just to clarify, a dedicated 2BR can never be split into a 1BR and studio. They are always reserved as a 2BR. Dedicated 2 BRs in all DVC resorts have 2 queen beds in the second BR with the exception of a few unique dedicated 2BRs at BCV (the room size will not accommodate 2 queen beds, and it has a queen bed with a pullout couch).

Whereas a lockoff 2 BR can be rented as a 2BR or as a separated 1BR and studio. The lockoff studio portion has a pullout couch at all DVC resorts except at OKW which has 2 queen beds.

I agree, as you've posted the answer is no. See if you can change your 2 BR to a lockoff if your family relents and then it's possible but not guaranteed. If you are able and decide to do so, make sure you put in your request at every opportunity including with MS, when you check in and then when you go to the desk at 6AM (my recommendation) on the change day. Or you could do the 2 BR for the entire 9 nights. I wish DVC would do like Marriott and let you stay in one unit until the next is ready (and no it's not an issue with the time for cleaning, there are EASY ways to work this out if needed).
