I planned a last minute trip with my kids and the only resort available was SSR. I'm not worried about that since the reviews seem to be great. This will be my first trip alone with the kids and the first time without a stroller. My question is where should I request a room to be closest to the buses and quick serve etc.?Basically what is best for a Mom and a 7 and 4 year old?

Thanks in advance. BTW this is not our first trip by any means just first at this resort and first alone. Did I mention that I'm glad that Grumpy is not taking this one? LOL

Springs keeps you close to the man diing, quick serve and main pool. The buses can be crowded at this stop, but we've had no issues with buses from SSR in our multiple stays.

I would recommend Paddock and avoid Springs. Paddock is the 3rd stop and the new pool has a quick service dining.
My last trip, I noticed busses were usually standing-room only by Springs, and that would not be fun with kids.
As an alternate, Grandstand is the 1st stop and close to the main dining area. Carousel is the 2nd stop and close to the Paddocks pool/dining (but far from the main area)

We had no problems with the buses in the Springs area in early April this year. We loved the area. We used the buses to make rope drop a number of days even though we had our own car. We always got seats. I guess it's going to matter when you go (both date and time of day).

Now, if I were to go back to SSR next week (I wish I were), I think that I'd try the Paddock area and the new pool area. One of the good things about SSR being so large is that each area is a new experience. You'll love it regardless of which section you get put in.

Thank you for the information. We are leaving 2 weeks from tomorrow. I'm quite sure I'm crazy but I will rarely refuse a chance at Disney.

You're not crazy- I did the exact same thing this past April with my 2 sons (who are 12 &14). We had the BEST time, and we were only there for 4 days. We stayed in the Springs and found it VERY convenient to all the main activity at the resort- and we had no problem with buses. It also made it easy to go to the boat for DTD. Have a WONDERFUL vacation!!:thumbsup2

A couple of thoughts:

We really like the "first-on/first-off" Grandstand bus stop--and 2 of Grandstand's four buildings are really quite close to the main check-in/restaurant/pool area...but the other two buildings seem much further...

BUT "far" is a relative term...nothing's really all that far, once you figure out your walking routes...even Carousel, the furthest of the "neighborhoods," isn't more than a 10-minute walk...

Both Grandstand and the new Paddock pool area have quick serve food--but I've noticed the Grandstand food/bar hours are really very limited...Artist's Palette in the main area (Carriage House) has much better hours of operation...

Quite likely, your kids will have more "walking energy" than you will after a day in the parks! So I wouldn't worry overmuch about being close...and the fact of the matter is there are bus stops at each of the neighborhoods, making each building "close" to a bus stop. And all but Carousel has its own pool, too...and 2 of the 3 "quiet pools" (Paddock and Grandstand) have their own bar w/sandwiches & snacks also available for purchase...

So no matter where you wind up it'll be the difference between "great" and "even better"...

Have a GREAT time!

Dede-
I am doing the same thing with my two DS (7). Been a lot but never alone.
I think it will be a great memory.
We are staying at SSR also.
Have fun!

I have a feeling that I won't get my first choice but you never know. Like I said Disney almost any time is great for me. We were there over New Years this year and that was NOT a time I love or care to repeat.

I"m so excited and appreciate the information. I'm usually an Animal Kingdom girl so I'm glad to branch out.
