I am now 9 days from my magical trip. The pool side at SSR was a major factor for my children's choice of resort.Just found out it is closed for most of our stay. Are there any options ie:transfer to another resort+pay difference at this late hour...

You can switch your reservation - subject to availability. If the new reservation uses fewer points than the SSR reservation, the "extra" points will go into the holding account.

Since you are a DVC member, your family could just pool hop to another resort's pool. For example, OKW & POR are close by and both have pool slides. I believe the CBR pool has just reopened after a major refurb - you might enjoy that one, too. Lots of options.

You can take the boat and pool hop to OKW.

What are the dates of the slide closure? Looks like we will be there then too. It is a surprise weekend trip and my DD loves SSR because of the slide. It is not the end of the world, but this is the first I have heard of this.

I believe the pool slide is closed Sept.8 thru Sept.26. Thanks for the replies.I bought my points from a DVC member who was SO helpful.I have my doubts about availability for a studio for 11 days and would hate to impose on him if nothing is available.I also have my magical express res.+tags.Wish I knew earlier.I always check the closures posts.

Ahhh...so you're not a DVC member. Unfortunately, pool hopping would technically not be allowed. However, usually when a main pool is down, even regular guests are usually allowed to use the pool at a nearby resort. I'm thinking OKW may be the designated option, as SSR was the option while the OKW slide was under construction.

That (boating SSR to OKW) is one thing that I've never figured out and is not well documented. It does not seem that the SSR/OKW boats operate like the EPCOT area friendship boats, or do they? I assumed that they were all seperate boats and you'd have to transfer at DTD, a process that may take 1+ hr do do?

No, the boat route is: OKW to SSR, SSR to Dtd, Dtd to SSR, SSR to OKW. It just depends on when you catch the boat, as it stops at SSR going both ways.

The boat does not operate all the time though, sometimes not even during posted operating times even when the weather is clear and sunny.
We stood by the dock for about a half an hour one afternoon waiting for the boat to DTD but it never arrived even though the sign said it was in operation at that time. Plenty of boats went by from the OKW direction and back toward OKW, but none for SSR. We asked at the golf shop and after two or three calls they were told that the boat was not oeprating and someone must have taken the sign.

That's too bad. Reliable, regular boats like the EPCOT friendship boat service would be a great benefit, and make SSR/OKW a much more desirable location if you did not have a car. There should, at least, be some form of a live sign at the bus stops, mentioning the current boat service waits..
