SSR point allocation

Does anyone else feel they need to eventually reallocate the points at SSR into 2 categories as they did at BWV?

I just booked SSR for my trip next year and requested Springs again. If this section was preferred (also Congress Park), I would have used the extra points to have it guaranteed.

I doubt they will do that, because of the headaches the different "views" cause at BWV.

I just joined in March so I wasn't around when that happened. Were all the points the same when it opened?

I think that is the last time we'll see that type of point structure. Dividing resorts into "preferred" vs. "standard" as far views is pretty subjective...it isn't like tower vs. garden wing at Contemporary. I was actully surprised to see "standard" vs. "Preferred" locations at POP for an additional charge...my understanding is the "Preferred" are closer to the check-in/food court bldg.

I asked this question of the SSR GM last year on the Member Cruise, and I plan on asking again on the next one :goodvibes

With SSR, there are going to be more than 1 preferred view. DTD is a view that I would like to see guaranteed and I think the Golf Course views are going to be highly sought after.

Even if they don't change the point structure, they can make those units guaranteed like the Boardwalk views are.

If more members support this, we may get it to happen. The GM said that was something they would consider but I dont think without member support.

If it where to happen, would the Springs fall under (preferred) or would it be best views?

The way SSR is setup, I think it would need to be a combination of views and location of the building.

They were the same when it opened but some rooms were decreased well before it sold out. It was definitely after they started selling BWV. I doubt we'll ever see it but if we do, it'll be something a lot more obvious than the variations at SSR.

ETA: I know the points were changed well after sales started but can't remember if it was actually after the resort itself opened or before.

To me the Springs seems the most desireable location... I was envious every time I passed the Springs on our hike back to our room across the lake every time. I'd pay more to stay in the Springs guarenteed.

I'm pretty sure it was after the resort opened.

Going back and looking at my old point charts, the 1996 and 1997 charts did not have two views on them. The standard/preferred views did not appear on the point charts until 1998.

Although I'm pretty sure they made the change before the resort sold out.

You're right, I checked my points charts as well. It had to be prior to sell out from a legal standpoint as it affected how many points they could sell.

I agree with Liferbabe that Congress Park and the golf views could be more of the guaranteed BW view type locations, Springs could be preferred and the Paddocks could be std.

I would be all for that kind of change. Hubby says he wants Congress Park with a DTD view every time we go.

AS I recall, we were told (purchased in late 1999) that the SV was created due to many member complaints about the parking lot/entrance views that cost so much more than OKW. Also told that the total number of points available to be sold was decreased as a result (probably the legal thing you mentioned). Anyway, we all know guides don't always have accurate info, but this did make sense to me.

My theory was that Disney thought the complaints were impacting BWV sales (negatively) and that is why they did it.

I would be very surprised if they implemented a dual point structure anywhere else - it seems to be a headache for them right now. If they didn't have it, I think it would cut way down on the day by day calling at 11 months and it would certainly give the resort more flexibility in room assignments. JMHO. YMMV.
