I just read on another thread that the boat from SSR will also be stopping at POR along with OKW. Since that sounds like it might make for a long ride.....What section of DTD will the walking path from SSR lead you?

Was there in January and walked the path that starts in the parking lot by Cirque. It goes around the lot, meets up with the golf course cart path at the bridge over the canal. Once you cross the bridge you are at the golf course club house, just a short walk from the main community building if I remember correctly.

Doc, do I have this right?

It looks like the first phase is going to be quite a hike to the main common area and the pool. They might need a boat just to shuttle around the resort.

You know, canda, I thought that too, at first. But then I remembered that many of the WDW resorts are spread out (GF, Polynesian, POR, etc) and it's really only a short walk from most rooms to the main area. Now the walk between the buildings closest DTD and farthest from it - that may be a bit of a hike.

I remember seeing the map for the first time and thinking that it looked like a LOT of walking to get everywhere. Then I looked at the tennis courts on the map...which helped put everything into perspective.

I certainly hope that it is not on a scale that they would need an internal bus route like OKW or Ft. Wilderness. Any idea if they may offer golf cart rentals like they did years ago, before DI, and let you ride those around the resort and over to DD and PI???

Good question, Rex! I asked a CM that last week and she said that she thought that the golf carts might be coming back. I hope so.

okay I really doubt that PO and OKW will be using the same boat - remember DVC members PAY for the OKW boat - PO is only a WDW resort.

So I am pretty sure that is just a rumor - if not - oh boy am I writing MS.....

but I have heard that SSR and OKW will definitely be sharing a boat....

The fact that PO is a WDW resort wouldn't really matter as they will still have pay for their fair share.

Actually, I believe I once read a post from Doc that the OKW boats were paid for by the DD merchants association.

Can't put my hand on it, though.

once long ago - they tried to make OKW members share a bus with DI - they got so many complaints that they did away with it - pretty fast.

I would see this as the same case.

and yes your member fees pays for transportation - boats and buses.

remember that PO is big and they can easily fill a boat all by themselves....

can you see the OKW and SSr not being allowed on the boat because PO filled it up -when we are paying for it out of our annual fees - all the OKW and SSR members would be screaming at DVC....

Now if it happens - I will be the first to say I was wrong - but I can't see DVC allowing this nightmare to happen....

Of course for OKW/SSR members who would like to visit or eat at PO (love their food court) it could be a blessing - but I really think the members who want to go to DD would far outweight these people.

also remember when WDW had part of PO closed they shut down their boat to DD - they can't shut down the OKW boat because members are paying for it.

no the DD business aren't paying for it -otherwise the PO boat would have never closed. the PO people are generally once every 5 years or so and I would think they would spend far more money in DD then every year (or more often) DVC's.

the line for the DD boat at PO has always been LONG.....

but we will see - this May!!! yea!!! love a new DVC resort opening!!!!

In that case then how do BWV, BCV share a boat with YC, Swan & Dolphin?

when BW was first open they were going to have their own boat period -

BC/YC and D/S have always shared.

I don't know why the BW was cancelled - I guess because when it opened it was not just a DVC resort.

remember the villa are a DVC resort - the inn is a WDW resort.

All of OKW and SSR are to be DVC resort - not just part.

I still don't understand. BCV is DVC but BC & YC aren't. And they all (along with S & D) share a boat.

yes all the EPcot resorts share a boat (really boats) - and they use to all share the buses too -but I heard that the WDW resorts were no longer sharing with D/S????

Because both SSR and OKW are ONLY DVC resorts not WDW resorts too (Like BW and BCV) - then their members are paying for the boats and buses.

PO is a WDW resort - it has different bookkeeping.

the member fee is a given at the DVC resort it will be paid.

a WDW resort being filled is never a given - they generally are around 75 to 90% - but during the same time a DVC resort is generally 90 to 98% filled. (the 2% is their part they kept for maintence).

besides a boat going to DD from OKW - goes by SSR - not a problem - but PO is alot further down that stream.....so could
easily add an hour to the 20 minute trip it is now.

Okay I though of another way

you are a guest at BWI and the BWV boat comes up just for DVC member - would you not be insulted if you couldn't get on the boat....they can't do it with a DVC resort that shares it transportation system with a WDW resort - which both BCV and BWV do.

OKW and SSR are a stand alone DVC resort - they do not share their transportation system with a WDW resort - I see no reason for this to change.

I could be wrong!!!!

I think whether guests are satisfied or not will depend on the size of the boats.

The Friendship boats that serve MGM, EPCOT and the EPCOT resorts are very large. Except for the very end of the day (after Illuminations or Fantasmic), I've never seen a boat leave people behind because there wasn't anymore room.

If the boats are going to stop at POR, POFQ, OKW and SSR, then it seems to me they would need to be as large (or almost as large) as the Friendship boats. The pontoons and the ones currently serving POR/POFQ just are not large enough as it is, IMHO!

How can we verify this boat situation for sure? Or do you think we'll have to wait and see next month?

yes next month we should know for certain - you also got to remember that the opening into OKW is not very big - so a big ship might not make it without them widing this area and I don't think they can - because of the golf courses.....

I guess I'll see for myself in 27 days! :teeth:

I can't imagine using the boat all that much anyway...hubby and I like to walk. When we stay in the Epcot resort area we almost always use the walking paths to Epcot and MGM Studios.
