I had thought to vote that we wanted to try them all and otherwise SSR would be good, but I thought about it and there aren't that many of the DVC resorts that I am really all that keen to stay at! My DH liked the looks of SSR the first time he saw it online, and so did I. He and I met in Massachusetts, and while the architecture isn't exactly New England, there is something about it that resonates well with us. Plus the pool looks really fun. :) And if we are going to have a car, how nice to be able to access it so easily!

My older son is in LOVE with Disney Quest and to be able to go there daily on vacation would be his idea of heaven. I suspect it is only a matter of time before my younger son feels the same.

At the risk of dissing other resorts, which I truly don't mean to do, because clearly they are all quality resorts that appeal to many people, this is why I am not going to be using my SSR points to stay at them lots:

BWV- I am not sure I can ever stay at BWV with the scary clown with glowing eyes at the bottom of the otherwise very fun looking slide - I am glad that so many people enjoy that slide, but I have always had an irrational nervousness about clowns. :clown: -- :scared1: It is a deal-breaker for me, I must say.

VWL - the location appeals and we may stay there sometime, but the current decor isn't at all appealing to me and the points are high.

BCV - I would be interested in trying the BCV and SAB, but the reports of frustration with room assignments and the now seemingly cold pool and the mad dash to get a ressie make that sound less appealing to me, walking to Epcot and MGM or no....

I don't anticipate going to Hilton Head or Vero Beach - My DH's family has other preferred beach destinations at this point, one in Florida and one in Michigan. They do look like really lovely resorts, though!

I must admit, OKW has my number. I considered buying there. I want to stay there. I PLAN to stay there. Well, provided there isn't too much, er, mold. :) I don't think we will stay there MORE than SSR, though.

So, I decided to vote "mostly SSR"

We like SSR, but where we stay depends upon our vacation. We have small children, so if we have a short trip or are planning on a MNSSHP -- we stay at VWL to be near MK. Longer, more leisurely trips mean staying at SSR (or OKW next year). For warm weather trips, we like BCV and BWV. Since we bought DVC, we've been 4 times and we've found things to like about all of the resorts. Didn't like our pref. view BWV with the noise of the boardwalk, but it was a fun resort.

I hope that we continue to sleep around and enjoy all of the resorts.

There wasn't really a correct poll for my answer. I still plan on staying at all the resorts. :cool1:

We love SSR, for reasons I've enumerated all too often here on the DIS. I did vote "want to try them all, then SSR 4 EVER". Every trip we stay in a 1BR at SSR for the duration, except on arrival day, when we pick a non-SSR studio. You see, flying in from PHX we don't get on-site until after 5PM, and we're usually not up to anything elaborate, so we stay somewhere non-SSR and have a relaxing evening walking around and getting acclimated. This also allows us to check in early at SSR - never had a problem yet, even as early as 9AM - and get the choice rooms! ;) :lmao: ;)

I have stayed mostly at SSR because I LOVE SSR. I love being close to DD, I love the Spa, I love the theme and the beautiful rooms. I like knowing I'm at my "Home" resort. That said, I will try all the DVC resorts at least once or twice. I'm dying to stay at Boardwalk. But I have 46 more years to do it!

Unlike some of the DIS regulars, we didn't have the luxury of spending the time to visit and stay at every DVC resort before making our purchase. We don't take 10+ day vacations and live too far away! Once we decided DVC was the right choice for us, we knew we needed to purchase BEFORE our next trip. For us, what's important is to be at WDW in a clean, comfortable room on-site. We don't really care what the theme is, as long as it has one! We bought SSR having never set foot on a single DVC property.

Our decision to purchase at SSR went like this:
It's Disney and that means "done right."
They were having a 15% discount at SSR.
SSR provided 12 additional years of contract.
Boy, that was easy! :teeth:

Planning our first trip DVC trip to our home SSR, then probably VWL, OKW and when the kid is older, we'll try BCV and BWV. But if we never get a ressie at any other DVC resort, we can certainly be happy at SSR.

I also voted that I would like to try them all & then SSR would be great! We loved SSR when we took a tour & we are thrilled to have bought our points there. We've stayed at BWV before on points we rented from some friends. My DD absolutely loved that scary clown pool! LOL We are looking forward to trying SAB over the summer, I think WL is just gorgeous, and I wouldn't mind trying VB or HHI someday. However, we really love DTD and because we bought at SSR it feels like our home away from home and the place we will choose to stay at most often. According to this poll, the majority of SSR owners on the DIS really do love their home resort! Seems to go against the popular belief on some other threads doesn't it?

:confused3

I doubt with the current discussions going on, that the poll results are valid.

I have seen no threads with BCV or BWV owners asking if people think their wait list to get into SSR will come thur......

I've stayed at Boardwalk and Wilderness as a regular guest, but would like to try the rest and plan on staying at SSR when we visit Disney.

I think we are going to add on Vero next year.

That does not mean the results are not valid. It's true that SSR is so big that getting points there will probably never be a problem, but that has nothing to do with how much SSR owners love their home resort. I keeping reading over & over again how most people bought at SSR just to get into the system. Unless myself & everyone else that has posted to the contrary is lying, I think this poll IS a valid representation of DIS members. I understand that SSR makes it more difficult at the 7 month window & I am not disputing that. The more DVC units they add, the more difficult it will be to get a unit at the smaller DVC resorts. I get that & I understand the frustration. Not trying to stir the pot! :stir:

I like to try ALL of the DVC resorts. To me, that's half the fun of DVC. So far I've stayed at BCV, BWV and SSR. I loved them all for different reasons. My next vacation is already planned for July and we'll be staying at HH. For our next Disney trip which will probably be April 2007, I'm planning on trying OKW.

Not often enough for me, Doc. Keep fighting the good fighting.

I haven't been "home" yet, but I voted SSR. I like the 11 month booking window, the proximity to DTD (like the dining options and shopping there), and the newness of the resort.

We checked into DVC in '93, after several stays at Treehouses & Fairway Villas, but our budget with 4 teenage daughters held us back.

After staying off property for a few more trips, we finally came back in '03 with our growing family & first "Grandchild" and I promptly made an appt, brought DH along for the ride (he was finally ready) and we joined up!

We love SSR for so many reasons including its location to DTD and the water and have stayed with our family about 3 or 4 times now & a couple of trips with just the two of us. We have thought about staying in other DVC's but enjoy the relaxed atmosphere & openness. I did put some family in BWV on our last trip since I couldn't get an addtl studio at SSR for our trip in early Dec. It was also very nice and they enjoyed their stay.

It's amazing to me how hard it is for others to believe that SSR is perfect for many families and how hard it is for others to accept that we enjoy SSR even as much as they love their home resort.

I love the diversity that Disney has to offer but we bought SSR for all that is has to offer now, just as it is & feel confident that DVC will continue to satisfy most of its members, after all . . .You can't please everyone all of the time ;)

Last July when My trip to Cancun got cancelled due to a hurrican I was unable to book at SSR. Went to Ocean City MD instead.

We mostly want to stay at SSR, but are currently waitlisted for a GV at OKW, due to the low points requirement. We love the proximity to downtown disney; kids love DisneyQuest, we love the restaurants & adventurer's and comedy clubs.

We've walked through all the other resorts but never stayed at them yet. I know I would really enjoy a trip to BWV or VWL. DH might go for BWV once, but has no interest in VWL at all. Neither of us liked BCV--just not our thing, I guess. We have stayed once at HHI and enjoyed it. Never been to VB.

Now if DVC were to add a California Disneyland resort--oh! We'd be ALL over that! We'd add on in a heartbeat to be sure we could always get ressies, and would be scheming for ways to use our SSR points there!

I voted for the "Mostly SSR" option. I am a brand new owner as of today, but toured the resort back in October. Being from the Northeast, it reminded me of home and when I hear the "Welcome Home" upon checking in, I want to feel like I am at home...not at someone else's house. We have friends and family who live in the Kissimmee area and I wanted them to have easy access to us when we are visiting central Florida and vice versa.

The extra 12 years was a definite selling point for me, as well as the current discount and perks. Sure, I will probably add on points at another resort in a couple of years so I have options, but I think that the popularity of SSR will climb as the resort is completed and becomes more of an established community. When things are in chaos, it is difficult to see what the end result will look like and I think that too many people are looking at the construction equipment and not looking at the very things that will make SSR desirable to a whole new generation of DVC owners.

In 36 years when the BCV, BWV, VWL, and OKW owners are out of their contracts, I will be getting a massage at the spa at SSR!

I voted for mostly VWL. We bought SSR sight unseen, and when we toured the resort after we purchased, we found we just didn't care for it that much :( Our specific complaints were that it's too far away from the parks, we don't like being able to see the other non-Disney hotels so close by, and the theming just wasn't that special to us. That said, it wouldn't be a tragedy if we had to stay there (it IS still Disney after all...) but it definitely won't be our first choice of resorts.

On the other hand, we were so impressed with VWL that we added on there the day after we returned home. That's the great part about DVC though, something for everyone!

I voted to try all the resorts... I really do not care which resort I am staying at just as long as I am staying at one. I think we all spend too much time picking one over the other and can allow this to cloud our vision and then we fail to remember that we are spending our time at the Happiest Place on the Planet. I guess I am just too easy to please. A rainy day at WDW always beats a sunny day at work in my book.

goofyguy,

You are a SSR DVC guides dream come true. Yes, a rainy day at WDW beats a sunny day at work but some of us demand more for our dollars. Some of us actually trusted that DVC knew what they were doing. Thank you for this post, the lightbulb just went off. The big gripe here shouldn't be about SSR it should be that DVC let greed get the best of it. We now have a resort in the system that is the size of the 3 smallest combined. some 40% of the Members of that resort, intend on mainly trading out at the 7 month mark. DVcguides ahve sold the resort encouraging this. Buy here, stay there. We all better hope that we like SSR because we will all be staying there soon enough unless we use the 11 month booking advantage elsewhere.
